Didn't do Maj yesterday - too wild, windy & wet!
Today though Nerys had a really BRILL session with her - had her walking, trotting & cantering on both reins under saddle in the round pen (large enough to ride in!) & Maj was just perfect!! OK - shes trying & testing everything - can I do this, can I get away with this etc! Then she took her into one of the small paddocks & she was fine again - with grass underfoot - then she rode her down the bridleway & back up our lane - only a short distance - with me as comfort blanket - but Maj really didn't need the comfort blanket!!
Nerys says shes just so comfy to ride - like an armchair & her paces are just wonderful - feels like a much bigger horse! Also she says shes so very responsive to the lightest of aids already!!!
Tomorrow we are going off down the lane!!!! |

Just come back from Majs big adventure! First time out on our lane with her big friend Ginger (me on Ginger - PB Saddlebred/PBA) for company.
Well she was a real star!!! Only 4th time of being sat on - did a bit in the roundpen first - working with another horse (Ginger) a new experience for her - she didn't bad an eyelid as we walked & trotted round on both reins side by side. Then off we went down the bridleway onto the lane - Ginger showed me up by looking at everything - Maj didn't do any spooks at all & she was quite happy to lead the way, go side by side or behind - she was totally relaxed & on a loose rein. She wasn't at all bothered by the strange man on the Quad who kept taking photos!! Then popped into the neighbours (Nerys parents) where we chatted for 10 mis - Maj stood like a rock......I can't say the same for Ginger!! Then back home.....she looked very pleased with herself.....& we were all amazed at how calmly she behaved on her first trip out! |

Nerys & Kev are off back to OZ tomorrow[:( They will be back in a year as they are getting married next year (have a licenece to use one of her Parents old stone barns!)......so she will be very interested to see how Maj is progressing & also if Tessa & Polly produce foals as she handled Rameed to cover them.
I have been so delighted & grateful to have her to do Maj - she is just so knowlegeable......makes me feel a complete novice - even after 40 years of riding
She also solved Majs loading phobia (wouldn't at all!!) - now she happily goes into the trailer...almost by herself! |

Hi Judith - it's Laura using mum's login Are you absolutely positively sure you don't want Maj to have a novice season under saddle in 2008 with a knowledgeable, experienced Welsh 26 year old StudWorker???!!! She looks fab - well done. I am without ridden purebred at the mo - concentrating on some anglos including Maj's half sis. Just to let you know - we have another truly blondie 2yo filly. You thought Maj was blonde as a baby... well Shems seems to have acres of tumbling wavy mane - cheeky too, reminds me of your girl. Keep up the good work Laura |

Hi Laura
Can you thank your mum for selling us Maj as a yearling (gosh time flies - shes 5 now!)....everyone who sees her falls for her & wants to know who bred her etc!!!
What would you want to do ridden for novice 2008? She is so well put together & so well balanced & moves amazingly!!!
Sadly her blonde mane isn't as blonde now - she was a wonderfully blonde "bimbo" when we bought her - quite amazing was her mane! It is darkening in colour as she gets older - sadly!
We would love to come up later in the summer to see all your wonderful horses again.........but I will leave my cheque book at home!!

Well.....shes been having McTimmoney Chiro treatment from my friend - so hasn't done anything for a while now - also busy sorting out a saddle for her as she is far wider than any of my other Arabs! We have to order a wider saddle for her from the US - so as soon as that arrives - will start hacking her out quietly. Will keep you posted |

Also a good tip is to practice long reining on one of your older and more experienced horses, that way if you get in a tangle he wont mind as much lol |

Heres Maj & Jo (Evie) taken this afternoon - her first day back under saddle since being backed. She was ever so good - really didn't put a foot wrong in the round pen & then we went for a walk round our neighbours fields & along the lane....so shies or sillies - what a BRILL girl
