I've only just caught up with this - quite fascinating, and so pleased that you seem to be getting somewhere at last. Hope the progress continues and Po ends up pain-free and able to get back to endurance

Po is very lucky to have you. Many owners would just put her 'fall sleeping' as just one of her funny little ways and do nothing about it. And of course there are those other type of owners out there who would see it as far too expensive and bothersome to put her right and would either sell her on, or PTS.

Good on you for following your instincts and getting Po the help she needs, she is obviously feeling the benefits already and long may her progress continue.

Feel free to give us updates as often as you like - I love reading about Po's progress!

Well it's just over 5 weeks since Po was first tested by the kinesiologist and she gets a retest every 5 weeks to check progress and update feeds etc. She had her big retest done on Wednesday and the kinesiologist phoned me the results.

She is absolutely over the moon with her improvements and what the Cranial Osteopath is doing. So so pleased to have found him (osteopath) and I really hope he decides to branch into horses as he's excellent.

She told me that in the next 5 weeks I'm going to see the most dramatic improvements in Po and that by the end of the 5 weeks her falling will have stopped!!

I've seen many improvements with her but last week I saw a big physical change. I noticed that her tail was shorter and was confused as it normally touches the ground and it was a few inches off the ground, quite a few! I thought maybe someone had cut it! But that wasn't possible and I kept thinking on it. Then it came to me, I wonder if it's her stance that's changed and everything at the back has moved up and so the tail looks shorter? I asked the kinesiologist about it and that's exactly it! She said it would be good to take pictures as the changes and improvements will keep coming as she does her biochemistry work, the osteopath does his back/spinal column work, the barefoot farrier (fingers still crossed I get him) does his work and so all this wonderful team supporting Po to heal herself.

What a learning journey I'm on here...it's really amazing. The kinesiologist and her biochemistry work, her support, knowledge, explanations and all that I'm learning about the feeds, the cranial osteopath's work and of course all the little missing pieces of the jigsaw I've now managed to fit to the puzzle. It gives me a very clear picture of my horse and I now know the enormity what happened to her 12 years ago, how she has felt all these years and the true strength of her character and her wonderful nature to put up with this and keep going without complaint. She's one in a million (biased of course )

Sorry, I was only going to give you a brief update that the retest was excellent but it's just amazing and I get so gushy about it

I'm cautiously doing this inside that my girl will be fully well again for what will really be the first time in her life! Only 7/8 weeks ago I was so worried about her and looking at her with such a heavy heart at how she seemed and what the future held for her.

Fee

PS Third osteopath session next Saturday The kinesiologist reckons that only one or two more sessions will see this pressure released and that the sessions can really space out or maybe stop but I'm hoping to keep the osteopath coming regularly to keep a check on them all, to know that everything is good and that they all feel good

You gush all you like girl. That is what I like so much about this site. People like you who truly, truly love their animals and will go the extra mile (and in your case more!) to help them.

I hope that the lovely Po fully recovers. Just to see her looking happier must be repayment in itself.

I am sooooo pleased for you.

Hi guys,

Have had a bit of a setback this weekend Po has been falling yesterday and today quite bad and she has injured her fetlocks again.

I'm hoping this is just a blip and we will continue in the positive upward journey before long. Her feeds and amounts change after the 5 week retest and one of the things she was to start on (rosehip granules) I couldn't get until Saturday so she didn't start on them until Saturday evening. I'm hopeful after a few days on the correct diet we get back to moving forward.

Cranial Osteopath on Saturday, I always look forward to that one as she seems to get such a lot from it.

Thought I'd give you all an update as Po got her 6th cranial osteopath session yesterday.

He's coming back in two weeks and reckons that after that session or perhaps one more a fortnight later he'll be able to leave her a while and check her later That's really great news as her block/dead end/pain/pressure part of her spinal chord is releasing and flowing but we wont know how well it's worked until she is retested in a few weeks. Meantime he's happy with her bio-mechanics and I'm happy with how well she's moving.

She is still stumbling, but it's nothing compared to when I started the 'I'm really worried' thread when her legs were all injured with falling down, she had no energy, no interest and nothing was growing or healing.

Now what a difference! I've been there every day for the entire day the last 9 days (on holiday) and she only sleep stumbles about once or twice a day now. She is so much better in herself, more energy, not hanging back anymore looking tired and depressed. She's alert, happier and is 'right there' now. Really big big change from when I was most worried and didn't have anyone to help her.

Downside is that with not being exercised and all the feeds to support her recovery she's a bit overweight. The osteopath felt her system was sluggish yesterday and I'm convinced it's because she's carrying more weight than normal/ideal.

I started an exercise program with her today of inhand work and I'm really pleased at how well she coped. She was really forward and up for it. I'll try to do this daily to get her system ticking over better, lose the weight and hopefully get a bit fitter, ready for (dare I say it) getting back to ridden work!

I know it's still not over and we are in for the long haul (I'm kinda thinking Spring might see her well?) She's due her fourth test with the kinesiologist in 3 weeks and I'm hoping that she'll address the stumbling then. But we have to wait and see what 'layer' is most prevalent for Po at that time to sort and peel away.

Thanks for listening to me once again

Fee x

Great to know that your girl is still benefitting from her treatment. I suppose that considering how long she was carrying her old injury, it is only to be expected that it will take time for her to recover. Roll on next Spring, and here's to seeing you both back out enjoying yourselves

Oh Fee what a journey for you!! So hope and pray that Po is on the road to a full recovery.

Bless her, those pictures of her lying down are amazing and must make you feel so much better. It's funny when you try to explain how something so 'normal' in most horses becomes something that you crave to see as they obviously aren't coping in some way. When K was having all those awful agrophobic panic attacks a few years back and wouldn't leave the gate and was crashing through fences etc, I would have given anything not to have been able to catch her. As it was she would have jumped into my arms at the first opportunity to get out of the open as it were - just not right is it!

Well best of luck with the continued treatment and love and hugs to the gorgeous Po !

xx

He He, race yer

I have a picture somewhere of them both covered in mud, cantering across the field, Mats in front with Po 'waddling' behind, but only because she was carrying little Polka, I suspect without the large tummy, Po would whoop Mats ... game on

Fee I've been so busy all summer and then had an operation on my arm so only just able to type now!

I won't hijack your thread but my little boy is back with his mum ! I can't do anything but look at them at the moment which is good enough for me.

I will take some piccies and post them when I can hold a camera again ! He's so cute though, such a lovely temperament and easy to handle (at the moment ).

So lovely to see all your girls together - I am just wading through all the last 3 months threads at the moment to see what I have missed and it made me smile so much to see your pictures !

Take care
Jen

Guess what I did today...

Rode Po

I've been exercising her all week in hand round the field and she's been coping well. Today it was so nice and I couldn't resist a wee shot

I looped her 12ft line into reins and jumped on her bareback and walked her round the field for 20 mins. Really pleased to sit on her again, I've missed it so much. Not sure she was that enamoured as she thought she'd retired!
