Hi,
Having had Po's kinesiology results back she has to have some Mctimoney sessions up until I can get a Cranial Osteopath in place.
If you have used one for either yourself or your horse can you please give me your experiences.
I've been frantically reading and from what I can gather it shouldn't be mistaken by 'Cranio-Sacral'. I need a registered Osteopath who specialises in cranial and preferably equine, but I'm told often the 'human' ones will work with horses.
I have found one, Catriona MacDonald who was based in Scotland, but unfortunately for me has relocated to Cirencester, if you google her, it's someone like that I'm after.
Any advice or recommendations greatly appreciated.

We use a wonderful cranial osteopath to help Evie with her illness - he works miracles
Superb person and very, very effective.
Where are you based - I can ask our guy to recommend someone in your area if that helps |

Hi Fee,
I took my son to a cranial osteopath for treatment when he was very young - he had very bad asthma. He hugely benefiited from the treatment which I thought was very effective. I'm afraid I don't know of anyone who has used this form of treatment for their horse but I wouldn't hesitate to try it.

Just a thought Fee, but why dont you ring Catriona MacDonald anyway. She may well come back up your way regularly if she has friends or relatives up there. If she doesn't she would at least be able to recommend someone for you.
Let us know what the test results showed and good luck with it all.

Templars yes please! I'm based in SE Scotland near Edinburgh. That would be great if he could recommend someone.
Saddlebred I did email her and she replied that Equine Cranial Osteopaths are 'thin on the ground', typical! Po isn't making this easy for me. She herself isn't taking on any new clients either.
Shah, I just don't know where to begin! Got the phone call last night and it's been a blur of phone calls, reading and lot's of thinking 
This all relates back to whatever happened to Po when she was 1 or 2 and her pelvis must have been pretty smashed up. Basically the simplified version is that she has pressure/pinching on her spinal column near her tail. This can't be rectified with any physio work and needs a cranial osteopath, hence the specific title and registration. She needs 4 or 5 sessions of that 2 weeks apart and she is going to go on to a strict diet of high vits and minerals which will support her body before, during and after the treatments.
Not sure at this stage if that will be the 'cure' for the sleep deprivation as we will be in 'fixing' mode until everything is fixed. So when this pressure in her back is released something else may appear and that will be treated/supported and so on and so on until she is tip top  So, basically starting at what is the most predominant ailment/pain and supporting her system to heal it and move on to the next if needed, working all the way back.
There is loads and loads and loads more I wont bore folks with, quite amazing stuff! Obviously I can't tell you this is the best route and will be successful, I just don't know. I'm relying on my gut and my relationship with Po to guide me and I have to have some faith here, time will tell. If it's not a success I have a plan b.

Catriona McDonald comes to our yard.......I know she is not taking on new clients but maybe if you could bring Po to ours the next time she is coming. I can certainly ask Linda. She thinks Catriona is very good, she recommends a lot of herbs to aid treatment and I think there is a bit of a "spey wife" about her but she certainly does not market herself as that. I have no idea when she is next coming but I can ask Linda tomorrow. Will text you.
All I will say is steer clear of Isobel Hogton......she will never get within touching distance of either of my horses again.
Liz Jones comes to see my horses, she is very good.

I'm still in 'fixing' mode too. Have vet coming out to see Mush today as he's still not quite right. The collapsing has gone (must have been sleep deprivation) and he's stopped propping up his bum too, but for the last week and a half he's been in pain. Danilon improves him this time around so we're sure it's pain, it's now just the case of working out where it comes from. He won't let me pick up his back feet (haven't been able to pick them out since this started a week and a half ago), and is very grumpy about picking up the front feet. He's not lame, but very short stride on the backs in trot, fine in walk.

Ooo poor Mush! Sounds like a sore back, I've been there a few times with Po since all this 'Po's not right' started.
Honestly! Are Mush and Po twins separated at birth! 
Let us know how it goes, off to buy Po's new feeds. You forgot to say how they also keep us skint! Ah well, value beans aren't too bad when you get used to them!

Well after getting the kinesiology results on Wednesday evening. Thursday I got all the feed stuff the kinesiologist wanted her on asap and had another lengthy chat with her. Friday we were ready to get started.
I didn't want to admit to anyone, myself mainly, but last week I was seriously worried about her. She was sleep falling all the time, would hardly graze and no energy. 
I thought there was a difference yesterday, but put it down to me wanting it. However, today there is without doubt a huge improvement. She had much more energy and grazed most of the day. I even rode her and she was forward going (probably mainly the gales we have her today  ) I arrived at 9am and the first I noticed her sleep fall today was late afternoon and she only did it once!! That's just fantastic, believe me!
Just before I was leaving this evening Polka and Inka were having a sleep and Po was standing dozing (no falling though) Inka started snoring and dreaming so I nipped in to get my camera to film her (very cute) and came back, sat down in straw beside Inka and Po had a look at me, then, guess what! She lay down!
I quickly took some pics of the monumentous moment! She only stayed down a few minutes because she took a coughing fit (prob with me giving her hay the previous few days as she wouldn't go out) But what a start!! I'm so over the moon!
I just hope I'm not speaking too soon.
I have also contacted three Cranial Osteopaths based in Edinburgh (human ones) and two weren't keen to take on a horse but the other is going to phone the kinesiologist to discuss. Fingers crossed he is prepared to take her on. She gets a mctimoney in a week and hopefully the osteopath is in place to give her her first treatment after that.
PO LYING DOWN!!! 
ETA Pop, not too flash, I only have value beans once a week as a treat!  I admit though, tonight I did consider a mini bottle of wine to celebrate although I don't even drink! I resisted though and just bought one small tin of value beans

| I use a lady in leicestershire called kate Lord, she uses mctimmony and cranial massage, she has worked wonders with my arabian gelding, we use her on all our horses |

A friend of mine used Catriona McDonald several years ago on one of her horses, and she done an outstanding job. The difference in her old gelding just after a couple of treatments was amazing

WOW WOW WOW - excellent news Fee Well done!!! I hope you don't mind me asking as I'm honestly very interested but I wonder what feed stuff it is that you've been recommended??
So great to see her lay down. It may take her some time to catch up. My iridologist spoke to a vet who has quite a lot of experience with this and she says that once they start resting again it can take a few months to catch up so don't despair if you get a relapse, it's all part of the healing process.
I had my vet out on Friday for a check up and poor Mush has very sore feet but at least nothing more serious so I've got the green light to riding again. In fact I have to ride or walk him 6 days a week for 20-40 minutes to harden his feet. And vet was amazed at the change in Mush since he last saw him a month ago when he was collapsing, stressed, thin like a hat rack and dull coat. Now he's alert, fat and shiny

Fee thats brilliant, just brilliant.
If you are celebrating and want to treat yourself to a special meal, Light a fire in the open, have a cup of coffee in a tin mug, Wear a big hat (or improvise with laundry basket lid etc.) have your horses tied up in a row, put a good splash of Brown Sauce in the Value Beans and there you go, authentic Mexican night out. (Dont forget to call any visitors Gringo. |
