Hi everyone i'm new to this forum as i've just bought my first arab. He is 15.1hh flea bitten grey called Shahtan, out of Shahpoor and Shibine. I would really love to know more on his sire and dame also on The Shah, grandad, so hopefully this might test your knowledge as you all seem very smart. Sarah |

Hi Sarah,
So pleased you finally got logged in to AL, WELCOME.
Now the sire to your Shahtan, is Shahpoor, he was owned by the Jones family and he was some horse, he has been featured here before, but your boy´s granddad is in my opinion the horse of the 20th century as fare as the UK was concerned, he alone broke the mould, so to speak, he change the way the UK looked and judged Arabians, things would never be the same after "The Shah" came to town. I know others will understand if I post you these.

Gunni is this the dam of Dafinetta? I have been trawling through old AHS mags and I think I came across Dafinetta but not Dafina. According to stud book "Dafina (imp) by a Kehailan El Krush out of a Kehailet El Krush. Dafina, bred in Nejd by the Muteyr tribe, and sent in 1925 by H.M. King Ibn Saoud from Nejd to Lady Wentworth through the late Sir Gilbert Clayton."
Have you tried contacting Finn Guiness - he may have pictures. I'll keep looking. Bob's bound to have something!!!! |

Gunni, its page 180, with a foal.
It says: A keheilet el Krush A white mare foaled 1921 Bred in the Nejd by the Muteyr tribe Dam; A keheilet el Krush of King Feysul Ibn Saoud Sire; A horse of King Feysul Ibn Saoud, a Keheilan el Krush (Krushan) Imported through King Ibn Saoud in June 1927, by Sir Gilbert Clayton, for Lady Wentworth. Her last registered foal was born 1947. Dafina was 26 years old!!

Thank You so much for the information, but I still don´t have any pictures of Dafina, and I don´t have all this books as in fact Im´new with all this strains, bloodlines and so on.
Well I have arabians for many years but that was just "arabians" and I never thought of the pedigree, until they where gone by age and I try to find some other arabians and lost my hearth to crabbet.
So I swallow everything from AL that can educate me.
Some day I hope there will be a loooong tread about strains !!!!with pictures
ps. I would love to have the pic of Dafinetta to as I try to collect horses there are in the pedigree of my horses.

Hi Gunni,
I do not have any pic´s of Dafina, she was straight from the Desert and only Lady W would have one, now I have tried to track her family down these are thay
Horse Color Sex Year Sire Dam Breed DAFINETTA gr M 1935 NAZIRI DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit FAYELLA gr M 1942 FAYAL3 DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit HAZZAL C ALGOL3 DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit REYNALTON C ALGOL3 DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit RYAMA M 1931 NUREDDIN II DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit YARZEENA gr M 1940 YASSB DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit YASSIF C YASSB DAFINA2 ARABIAN Edit Now only Definetta is shown to have a photo, but it will not show up in All Breeds, so I copied the URL http://1q2w.webbyen.dk/billed.asp?PrivatBilled=210611 but it did not load.
Now what I can tell you is the information in All Breeds came from Denmark. so if you can contact www.webbyen.dk and ask them about the URL above they may be able to show you Defintta´s photo. I have tried for two hours but I don´t speak Danish sorry.

Hi Bob,
I tried to look at webbyen.dk but it's just a webhotel and when I searched for Arabian, mostly fantasy studs came up - you know the kind where little girls create cyber stables with photos of Arabians from all over. I don't think the link is there anymore and it may not even have been the right horse. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. I also tried to find some contact info for the webhotel admin, but it doesn't seem to be there Sorry

.....There was only one further addition to the Crabbet stock after Skowronek of a horse not descended from the original Blunt horses: the mare Dafina, imported from the desert in 1927 and presented to Lady Wentworth through Sir Gilbert Clayton of the Arab Bureau. Dafina bred on through just two daughters--Dafinetta, who remained in England, and Ryama, who was sold to Russia as a five year old. From Ryama descends U.S. Reserve National Champion Stallion and leading halter sire Padrons Psyche, one of the breed's leading sires of halter winners. Lady Wentworth sold Dafina in 1936, and henceforth the few additions to her program were all from stock descending from prior Crabbet breeding (such as the great motion sire Oran, the last stallion used at Crabbet who had no lines to Skowronek).

Gunni, the book is huge, and thick.
My son is coming over on Monday evening, if we cannot manage to scan it, and then someone post it here, I will take a photo and send it via email. It wont be as good but better than nothing. Its a painting that Upton did from the photo I believe.
I will need your full email address if it is not in your profile.
OK BACK TO TOPIC OR I WILL BE SHOT |

Hi,
I have had ADSL problems of late, but now I think we are OK, so to get this little bit of fun back on track, here is a quiz to start that brain cell regeneration, NOTHING TO do with Arabians, but lets see how good the students really are.
World's easiest quiz Passing requires 4 correct answers 1) How long did the Hundred Years' War last? 2) Which country makes Panama hats? 3) From which animal do we get catgut? 4) In which month do Russians celebrate the October Revolution? 5) What is a camel's hair brush made of? 6) The Canary Islands in the Pacific are named what animal? 7) What was KingGeorge VI's first name? 8) What color is a purple finch? 9) Where are Chinese gooseberries from? 10)What is the color of the black box in a commercial airplane?
Answers later

1. 116 years (1337-1453) 2. Ecuador 8. A purple finch is violet or reddish purple 9. Chinese gooseberries are also known as kiwis and come from New Zealand 10. A black box is painted bright orange

OK one more.
Are YOU The Weakest Link
Below are four (4) questions. You have to answer them instantly. You can't take your time, but must answer all of them immediately.
OK? Let's find out just how clever you really are.
First Question: You are participating in a race. You overtake the second person. What position are you in?
Answer: If you answer that you are first, then you are absolutely wrong! If you overtake the second person and you take his place, you are second!
Try not to screw up in the next question.
To answer the second question, don't take as much time as you took for the first one.
Second Question: If you overtake the last person, then you are...?
Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST person?! You are in first place, you lapped the field.
You're not very good at this are you?
Third Question: Very tricky math! Note: This must be done in your head only. Do NOT use paper and pencil or a calculator. Try it.
Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.
What is the total?
Did you get 5000?
The correct answer is actually 4100.
Don't believe it? Okay, check with your calculator! Today is definitely not your day. Maybe you will get the last question right?
Mary's father has five daughters: 1. Nana,2. Nene, 3. Nini, 4. Nono.
Quick, what is the name of the fifth daughter?
Answer: Nunu? NO! Of course not. Her name is Mary. Read the question again.
You ARE the WEAKEST LINK!!!!!!<
