You're not joking about the thrill of competition against the 'other horses' - it is still good to hear the commentary on the Arabian Knights team chase videos, though once (at the Grafton Hunt Team Chase) the guy commentating was so patronising about these Arab 'ponies' galloping round the course. They looked fabulous with their tails aloft and it was very rare that all four didn't get back home all together, frequently dressing fences as they got to the finish!
One of these days, we'll set up a video loop so people can see (perhaps HOYS or Your Horse Live this year?). |

Rachelle, super advice for people who want to get started but are lacking in confidence. Many venues also run schooling nights. These are usually low key and the earlier classes are frequented by novice riders and/or horses/ponies. They are a great way to get started. There are several in our area and the format is the same each week, a clear round that is followed by classes at 65cm, 75cm, 85cm and 95cm. So, you get a chance to school, a chance to jump round a course and have a little competition too if you choose. The aim is at encouragement so if your horse throws in a stop or two you will still be encouraged to complete the course. The more relaxed rules are a great confidence booster to the nervous horse or rider. Go on, give it a try, you know you want to! |

Babsr Just thought I imagine the AHS could not run a forum as you suggest because of the responsibilty of the Trustees to ensure compliance. You know how forums can result in litigation so they would be exposed as a charity. |
