The next AGM is probably scheduled for London (as the last was in the Midlands.)
I have suggested a new hotel to the AHS ( without an £8 parking charge,) again in the Midlands with good communication and near M'way exits. I have also asked, as Sheer Versatility is now booked for Sunday 29th March, (Pencoed) that Saturday 28th March is avoided (we are trying to get a seminar going) - tho Cardiff could make it quite an attractive w/e!

If you had the choice would you prefer London or the Midlands - or even the North?
Can we give Council an indication of how we feel?

Judy do you realise what you are asking - talk about opening flood gates!!Seriously Midlands for me and it is more central for most of Britain.

It would be a great pity for the AGM to clash with SV as it is such a wonderful show case for the Arabian.
The Midlands would be preferable.

Hi Judy

Definitely Midlands - easier for everyone to get to and so much cheaper than London. Glad to hear that Sheer Versatility is going ahead next year....don't I remember someone saying "never again" last year......?

North or Midlands

Not that he AHS will take a blind bit of notice, probably the complete reverse.

Historically there are better attendances outside London, so no prizes for guessing where 'they' will choose.

God, I should stop being so cynical!

My reasons for suggesting the Midlands again are that it strikes me that it may be cheaper to book a hotel there than the expense of a venue in London. If this is so we should be making every effort to 'economise' for the sake of the AHS balances. Also I was able to 'fill the car' with members last year which split the cost of diesel (and car parking!) whereas taking the train to London gets expensive. Quite realise that those living in Kent would prefer London every time!!!!

Judy - Although coming from Devon it would be cheaper in the Midlands, hope we can get there by train or drive, if in the centre of country this venue should make everyone happy (ha.ha)

I'm sorry but I don't agree with it being fair to have it in the Midlands two years in a row. People from Kent & Sussex do not want to travel all that way - for those with horses at home it means a whole day away and is just not feasible. It does not have to be in central London - there are plenty of venues close to the M25 that would be suitable.

I would say that if held in the Midlands the attendance would be much better than if it was London area. But I am not sure a good attendance is what the remaining council members will be looking for

However if as Jude says, it is unfair to have it in the Midlands 2years running, then surely it is time for the north of the country to have their turn? Wherever it ends up though, everyone should make a real effort to attend this year. Strength in numbers folks, and maybe it is about time OUR society really belonged to us!!

I think that's a little selfish, us Northern & Scottish folk have horses as well and it's always a day away if any of us wish to attend an AGM. I am under the impression that the Arab Horse Society is at crisis point and the more members that attend the better so if it's 1 of 2 choices then the center of the Country is going to attract more members which can only be a good thing

I'll vote for somewhere in the North!

Preferably on the usual historical date! (i.e. last Saturday in March) (I made my nephew move his wedding back a week so it wouldn't clash!)

How about a live link? These things are easily possible with websites and internet and wherever it is, it will have to be missed by the majority of members because they all have horses to deal with, and maybe can't afford the train fare anyway! They might not be able to contribute to the debates, but they could send in written questions and an advocate could try to ensure answers were given. They could also watch the proceedings, which would then be on record.

Isn't the weekend in Wales a good idea?
Cardiff is close to the Sheer Versatility venue, easy access from M4(M5,M50).
Sheer Versatility may be just the antidote everyone needs.
The horses, being blissfully unaware of all the undignified nonsense unfolding in the AHS, might just remind us what it's all supposed to be about!
Cheers
Lisa

Lets hope they choose a central location at the very least, then more of us can attend, and surely this 'attendance' is a priority to be considered in the light of current problems. London is out of the question for me personally but all northerners are expected to travel distances every year, even the midlands is a day away, London an overnighter. Leeds may be even more practical, excellent motorway and rail links from every direction including our scottish contingency who are never favoured with a local AGM. Maybe it would be more practical to have an AGM circulated around the regions that would be fair to everyone around the country at some stage or other. The 'hosting' regional group could allocate a suitable venue with all practicalities considered. Just a few ideas...nothing set in stone! but aren't we being assured new standards are being set. Maybe this is yet another item for our new council to deal with.

London definitely, everyone can get to London on a train

Several good and cheap venues are available one of which is directly opposite Euston Station

Everyone might be able to get to london on a train - but not exactly easily (or cheeply!)

It would take me 4 hours (plus getting to the station) & £60 (each)

Anywhere else & four of us could pile into a car for a tank of diesel? & we can get a long way from here in 4 hours - especially at weekends!

Could I suggest Birmingham or Peterborough? pretty central, and OK as far as rail links go!. Or maybe The Royal Showground, Warks, "central" but not sure of the travel links by train, good road links though!!

I know these are not perfect venues for our Scottish and far Northern friends, but possibly better than London?

If a venue can't be agreed, I would suggest a "live link", as has been suggested before by Roseanne? Surely this wouldn't be too hard to implement in our current Technological Climate and would also save the heartache of leaving our friends and family at home???

Carla, xx.

The Midlands is obviously fairest because it is just that. In the current climate perhaps it will be held where few people can get to!!! I may have to travel 1,600 miles but feel I need to hear what's going on straight from the horses mouth so to speak!!

How intersting that the 'originator' of this thread should be querying location AGAIN!!
Cast your mind back to the Futurity discussion in August - & thanks to two people (no names but I'm sure you can guess who ONE of them is) the Futurity had to be cancelled
as Myerscough was too far for her to travel, coincidence or what? or should I say just plain bloody selfish.

Driving to the Midlands will take us softy southerners more than 4 hours and cost in my case about £70.

Also what about the non drivers.

If in the Midlands needs to be Birmingham central for rail links, still a four/five hour journey and very expensive.

Despite the parking at least the Metropole is easy to get to by train.

No venue is going to suit everyone so the way it had been decided to go North/South on alternate years seems the fairest.

Its just a thought but what about regional meetings held within easier reach for everyone? the resulting votes could then be amalgamated, thus giving the whole country a chance to vote? the venues could be village halls or pubs anything that will get us all together on this issue.
