Hope Sirima recovers soon, poor thing. Sometimes our lovely Arabs just freak out for no apparent reason. One of mine who is extremely quiet and sane completely freaked out when she saw a herd of cows!

All the best,

Paul

hope she gets better soon.

Zaqrah ripped her whole leg open once, about 2 weeks after i had her, she was flirting with these scraggy ponies next door(no taste).

Anyway, i don't know what it was called, but the vet used this yellow runny gunky stuff-worked really well in helping it to heal.

LOL at that! Apart from your mare cutting her leg
Arabs are total flirts aren't they! My gelding is such a ladies man. He tends to like the bay ladies and has been a boyfriend to a rather scruffy looking woolly bay mare for a good 2 years now! I sometimes think he has no taste either lol.

Gill

Have you given her some Arnica, this will really help the bruising.

Poor Ri, and poor you. While she is dealing with the wounds, you're having to deal with the aftermath and the dreadful 'what ifs'. Hang in there; I'm sure she'll make a great recovery.
I hate barbed wire. Someone else put a thread on here about fencing which I haven't had time to read but I really think there is no room for barbed wire with intelligent animals with minds of their own like horses...
All the very best Ri and Moonfruit. Keep us posted.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery with no scars *healing thoughts*

I am not a fan of barbed wire either but if it's not your property you're rather stuck with it.

Just caught up with this thread - so sorry to hear this moonfruit. Poor Rima - I do hope she heals quickly. Barbed wire is nasty evil stuff.

Hi All

Thanks for all your kind thoughts & healing vibes.

Ri is so much better today. The swelling has gone down & her cuts are already healing well. She is definitely a tough cookie.
I took her for a walk in hand (as advised by vet) this morning, & as I had the afternoon off was able to take her out for a good hours mooching & grazing, which she loved

She is a very good patient & stands quietly each day while I wash all her wounds. The vet gave me dermagel to put on them as well. She is having antibitoics & Danilon, & I have also bought some arnica to put in her feed. Someone kindly sent me some aloe vera plants so I can apply the pure gel to her cuts too.

Today I walked round the field where she had her accident (hadn't seen it yet as it is their new summer field). Ironically, the whole paddock she was in is post & rail, apart from one small corner, which is of course the wire she went through. They had repaired all the fencing, but there will still her grey hairs stuck to the wire, which made me sad thinking of what she went through.
Still, what's done is done. The main thing is my special girl is feeling & looking better, very much back to her old self today & I'm just glad this story has a reasonably happy ending. It could have been so much worse.

The vet is coming back to look at her tomorrow morning. I'll post another update once she's been.

Thanks again for your good wishes.

Gill

I've only just caught up with this thread. I'm sorry to hear about Rima's accident, it's just typical that she should find the only bit of barbed wire! But that's horses for you!
My old mare cut her leg badly on electric tape.

The dermagel is very good stuff I swear by it. I hope Rima gets better soon.
