Judith they are written by Willian Horwood
It begins like this;
Bracken was born on an April night in a warm dark burrow deep in the historic system of Duncton Wood, six mole years after Rebecca. This is the story of their love, and their epic struggle to find it. It is a true story drawn from many sources, and the fact that it can be told at all is a great miracle as the history relates. But witout one other mole, 'Blessed Boswell' of Uffingham, Bracken and Rebecca would have died the death of legend, their tale declining into the darkness of time as a simple story of love. It was much more than that, as records kept by Boswell show, and it is these that form the bulk of the material on which this history is based.
And so it continues.......
There are moles with names, as well as those above, such as, Mandrake, Mayweed, Rune, Sarah, Bran, Celyn. and many more.
They came from places like, Whern, Dark Peak, Cannock, Rollright, Fyfield, Avebury, Uffingham Thames etc.......
There are several books and they are a great read, happy, sad, really upsetting and lastly so funny. They are brilliantly written. I have the whole set and read them as an adult, in fact they are probably too much for a youngster, and they are really thought provoking as the story can be related to our lives and the human race too.
You should try and get them from your library judith. You will enjoy them.
Sorry, back to topic, we are on gravel soil, so dont have a problem, but my sister does, she just harrows the fields to spread the soil again, she only seems to get them when its been wet weather which is understandable.
