The Shantih books are totally to blame for my love of Arabs, especially chestnut mares I absolutely adored the books and must have read them all at least 10 times And finally last year, I got my dream horse - Agonia - chestnut purebred with blaze and socks

Thank you Patricia for writing such wonderful books and inspiring me to follow my dreams!

I read my first Jinny and Shantih book last year and then had to go in search of two others as I was hooked! Great books, great writing and characters.

I do hope you're feeling a bit better soon,Patricia and I hope it cheeers you up to know that you still have so many fans who love Arabs ( especially chestnuts with white socks and faces!) - and who wish they were Jinny!

Another huge Jinny & Shantih fan here! I grew up with these books and first read them as a very young girl, I am now 36 and they are still in pride of place on my bookshelf, having been read over and over again. I also love the Black Stallion books, and these are very highly rated by a lot of Arab lovers, but to me Jinny and Shantih totally epitomised the intense love and bond between a young girl and her spirited arabian mare, just so magical. Funnily enough my first arab was a Shantih lookalike!

Get well soon Patricia and thank you a million times for your amazing and inspirational books, they will NEVER be forgotten!

Gosh, I am so sorry I missed out on these books! I loved reading and horses when I was young but I didn't ever get any of the Jinny books. Looks like I had better to do some ebay purchasing to see what I have missed!

I so loved the Jinny & Shanthi books, I still have every one. Patricia has the most amazing way with words & so many phrases & scenes from the books still stay with me.

My favourite of all time is "Be afraid. Be afraid, but don't let it stop you." & the way she describes Shanthi as "flaunting" across a field - I still use that word to describe how Rima does her show-off Arab trot when she's playing. The Red Horse & the Walker & the museum with the statue of Epona in.... I could go on for hours! They are fanatstic books & that trust & bond between a girl & her Arab has always inspired me.

That bit makes me cry when Ken makes her look at the Calves in the lorry! Also cried when Easter was put down and right at the beginning when she See's Shantih for the first time the ring, her words are amazing, makes my heart ache every time I read that bit!

Gosh, I've never come across these books (how on earth did I ever miss them???) but I think I will have to start raiding the library! My fav pony books are the Ruby Ferguson 'Jill' books and some of the Pullein-Thompson ones, especially 'I rode a winner' and 'I had two ponies'

Get well soon, Patricia.

If we're talking obessive about pony books then look no further. I have all the Jinny and Shantih books and still read them. I also buy them if I see them in a charity shop - even though I have them already. I love them soo much. I really hope Patricia Leitch is OK. It is great to hear about her - even though it is through unfortunate circumstances. From her books you could feel her own irepressible spirit shining through - that is the spirit that will keep her going through her time of illness and frailty. Your body may be captive in a hospital but your spirit will always gallop free -like Shantih. (Sounding a bit creepy now so shall stop)
I also collect the Jill books and learnt alot about stable yard ettiquette from them. Would also really love to know who the original Shantih was as I fell in love with her, and the girl looked just how I imagined Jinny to be.

Have to say though that as an adult now - Jinny could have done with the odd slap.

Those books are still the best books i have ever read!!!

I loved everything about them and all the characters. I always wanted a chestnut arab after reading them and thats what made me fall in love with arabs.

I would love to know more about Patricia Leitch, wouldnt it be fantastic if when she was feeling better she could do an article for Arabian Lines tellings us about herself and her book!!!

I used to adore these books and still do now! I can remember sitting by the fire in the winter reading For Love of a Horse for the first time and being totally engrossed in it, I used to take them to bed to read under the covers aswell. After that I always wanted an Arab of my own. Gallop to the hills is a fave and also For love of a Horse and Ride like the Wind too. But I love all of them. Who was the third Arab used on the covers? I always thought it wasn't a Shantih horse as it had a star and no leg markings, I much prefered Prince of Orange and used to dream I owned him!
I also love the book Dream of Fair Horses, that used to make me cry every time I read it!

I can remember getting A Devil To Ride from my school book club. I must have been about 7 or 8 and I bought it because of the fantastic horse on the cover - the original Shantih. How many Jinny books are there and what was the last one? I haven't bought any for a few years now so I may have missed on some

Patricia - Thank you for your wonderful books and get well soon.

According to a quick Google, the books are:
For Love of a Horse,
Devil to Ride
Summer Riders
Night of the Red Horse
Gallop to the Hills
Horse in a Million
Magic Pony
Ride Like the Wind
Chestnut Gold
Jump for the Moon
Horse of Fire
Running Wild

And apparently the last one is rare and hard to find.
