What a hoot.
I agree with alot of peoples sentiments, greed and money is a funny thing, did feel sorry for the showjumper though.
Funny how the thought of a free buck gets the so call 'upper classes' jumping through hoops! They should have known better after all they were dealing with uneducated people!
A very entertaining programme.

If I remember correctly the show jumper Lisa Murphy got a good sponsorship deal from someone else following publicity of this so she won in the end |

Many thanks to whoevever it was that told me to watch this programme, what a scream!!
How on earth did this pair of "women" manage to con so many people?? The big bird with the quadruple chin was hardly the most attractive of species, so when she went on to say how she could easily con men because they basically had a one track mind is amazing! How could any man fall for that!!!!
That aside, this pair were obviously very convincing for so many people to fall for them. I wonder what they are upto now?!

I thought it all so sad that folk were taken in!.....how could anyone believe such ugly women!! I hate the word dyke...rather they came from Lesbania...somewhere outer Australia isn't it?
I agree with you Paul, the showjumper lady, it was quite un-fair.

What is more of an insult to the genuine traders who supplied and weren't paid is the fact that this pair more than likely got a huge pay off for giving their story to TV.

Hi, The mare was our Walkiria (Mamluk x Weczera). She and Nadia were filmed at the Royal show. The filly mentioned was Mini Pearl.
Burton and her "companion" conned anyone and everyone from the poorest upwards. They showed no remorse - in fact they enjoyed it all.
Why should ordinary members of the Arab Horse Society (whether council members or not) be any cleverer in detecting fraudsters than those people who are supposed to protect the royal family?
They left a trail of destruction behind them, only a fraction of which featured in the TV programme. Behind the surface-humour of the story lies some horrendous personal tragedies.

I can believe that we will never know the true number hurt by these two. As an ex legal person, (law is an ass) I find it so unjust that they got a couple of years when the same sentences are passed out for relatively minor offences.
The 'law' serves 2 purposes, punishment and deterrent. I could not see either in the sentences. |

Unfortunately the program came over as 'funny'....and to someone like myself and others who only knew the 'surface', it should have been made clearer? If there is a film in the offing, as Marilyn says, can this be used to show the 'Pantomime Dames' in the light they really should be shown in?

i saw this program, but i to missed the first one. was very shocked that so many people were taken in. as the saying goes 'if it sounds to good to be true, it often is'.
big mamma was a complet toad!! how could any bloke be taken in by her. nev nearly killed himself laughing, then nearly threw up thinking about it lol
to say that the little people never got hurt is a lie. but they believe it to be true as they have no feelings for others.
they say crime pays, it certainly did in this case!

I feel very strongly that these two awful creatures should not have been or be able to gain money by selling THEIR story. As Paul says they caused so much pain to so many people, I can only guess what Francis went through, but I know from talking to her it was very distressing and for it to be portrayed in that program as a laughing matter I find it quite sickening.

Might i suggest that all of you who feel the programme was in bad taste, write to the programme director at Channel Four and vent your spleen!! Maybe they'll do one on the "other side of the con" then. suyen. |

All the comments about this programme make interesting reading. Sadly, as Fiona correctly comments, for those of us who were involved, it was probably the most terrifying time of our lives. The programme did not give an accurate account of the events that took place - it made the victims seem as if we had done something wrong and those of us who did take part in the documentary, wish we had not.
Most of the people shown on the film, were ordinary people going about their everyday business, who just got conned, pure and simple. Let's hope that if a film is made, that the producers paint the whole picture and an accurate account at that.
