The "stretch" refers more to the neck...the correct, balanced pose is with the near hind leg *slightly* back (not so much that your horse looks as if it is about to have a pee!) and the near fore slightly in front of the off fore, so that the judge can see all four legs from the side. If you can get your horse to switch over when the judge walks round to the other side, this can be helpful but is not necessary - and is probably too much to expect from a yearling anyway.
