Hi, Christine Reed phoned me at 6am this morning to let me know that TA Fellini (Felix) was ungoing colic surgery. He is a yearling and has just won Reserve Supreme Champion at his first show in Houston. I have just picked up my mail and he was in theatre for 5 hours and things do not look good. I am sure that Christine would appreciate the thoughts and prayers from everyone during the next couple of hours or days. I shall keep you posted. With appreciation, Liz Downes

Are thoughts are with you we' ve been down this road too and lost 2 brood mares to colic, though if diagnosed early enough they can be saved through surgery. Its all to do with deciding which colic it is in the first place and if god is on there side .wishing them all the best and my thoughts are certainly with them.Regards Libby. |

Liz, next time you talk to Chris tell her I am thinking of her. We lost dear old Black Sarong to colic earlier this year at 18 years old. Dreadful time.

Here is a photo of TA Fellini I recently took.

TA FELLINI (Kordelas X TA Filigree by Algonkwin)
The colic surgery he had was to correct for a severe impaction where the small intestine connects into the large intestine. It required removing a section of the small intestine and a new opening in the large intestine. He came through the operation OK but there are significant risks that the intestine won't start up again or that infection will occur. The next several days are critical. The good news is that he is young and healthy and the surgery was done within a few hours of the first symptoms.
Thanks for the prayers and good wishes.

There are success stories with colic operations. Susan and Louie Rebello's filly had a really bad colic op, and went on a few years later to become BNC filly.
Try to stay positive at such a worrying time, worry does not help - I know from months of a grandchild on life support. Our horses and dogs are also our 'babies', and we go on a roller coaster ride with them throughout their lives. I hope everthing turns out well for you on this occasion, I did meet you when you were in England and you are lovely people.
Chin up. |

Christine & I went and visited Felix this afternoon. He looked pretty good considering all he had been through. He was quiet and subdued but seemed to appreciate the company. He has made it through the first 48 hours the big hurdle now is to get his intestines working again. He will get no food for at least another two days.
