Just heard that another of my favourite Arabs has gone...this time Ibn El Nafis, son of The Shah and Bright Venus, aged 24. Owned and bred by the Hedleys. Ibn came to my attention as a young foal when he continually posed and refused to leave us alone whilst trying to photograph a filly foal in the same field at the old Briery! Later as a fine young stallion he was turned loose in a LARGE field for some action shots with the then stud groom assuring us he would stay in the corner area - did he???? not on your life...off he galloped way out of camera reach...and refused to be caught...he was quite a character! There can't be many Shah offspring left now - anybody know of any? RIP Ibn
I have what i think is a grand daughter and a great grand daughter of the SHAH and both are black and are actually both from a Crabbet female line. I am very sorry to hear of the news and although did not know him personally, fully sympathise with those who have lost their best friend.
Ibn was from The Shah's last foal crop (he died quite young - about 13 I seem to remember). Looking at the listing of The Shah's progeny I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there are very few sons/daughters left...Ibn was also the famous Bright Venus' only foal - I think his name meant "Son of the beautiful one". How I wish we'd been able to make it to Briery's open day for the N Wales group...just to see him one more time...but we had a commission to do at another stud that weekend.
So sorry to hear of his passing. He looked absolutely fantastic at the first EEUK, and didn't seem to have changed a bit over the years Seeing him again then after more than ten years made my day!
