I like that idea Firelight...Percy could even contribute with some growling!!
What a shame that he has such a lifelong condition but i believe once they have a dosage regime addisons dogs stabalise and can go on to live long and destructive lives! A friend had a beggle that lived until she was 10 and it was the stress of another problem that made the addisons flare up and they made the decision to let her go. The biggest problem I think was the weight gain from the steroids but she was a GREEDY beggle!
Its great that he will be home soon and I'm sure he'll bounce back with a vengeance!

Everyone in my life brings me happiness, some by arriving others by leaving.

Sorry that he has a life long condition, but fantastic that you have a diagnosis at last, and that he can be treated, and better still come home soon

Thankyou so much for your support and i like the sound of chatlines instead of corners , far warmer and more comfortable. They want to keep him in overnight so not coming home tonight but they are ringing at 7.30 am and if hes ok we can set off to get him, takes about 3hrs to get there so not too bad. Will be lovely to have him home although it has been nice and peaceful while hes been away and they has been no chewing of the furniture, walls, floors, light fittings , shoes, wellies etc while he has been away

Good news that it's a condition that can be managed long term. Loving Firelight's money making idea!

Hi Sally....so pleased to read you have a diagnosis for Percy. Must have been such a worrying time for you, especially when vets don't listen. I have googled Addison's and if you put in 'Addison's in dogs' , there is a very good write up on it. Apparently there are different levels of the disease. Here's hoping your lovely boy continues to make a speedy recovery.

So pleased Percy is home, from what I've googled Addisons is a condition rather than a progressive illness and prognosis for a long and happy life is very good.
So glad for you he is well and glad for him he has you x

Hurray that he's home. I had a collie with addison's. that took a bit of diagnosing too and I almost lost him with digestive problems before they sussed it. Once on the tablets he was fine. Good luck Percy.

There is so much to learn Quarabian, i need to find a vet in my area who is used to Addisons dogs until we can get his meds sorted. I have joined a fantastic page on FB and they are very helpful but still so many questions to ask, need to find out how to switch meds from one time of day to another , oh dear so much to learn, i am sure once we have him sorted i will be fine but don,t want him going downhill again. Any advice very grateful

So pleased Percy is home again and ready for 'a long and destructive life' - lovely expression!

Well hes not eating again, i have managed to coax him into eating a tiny bit of chicken breast and hes pinched some of the cats biscuits but hes not right, hoping hes just tired and a good nights sleep will see him improved in the morning , hes in his bed and had started to shiver so i have put his blanket on and hes seems happier.

If he isn't eating his meds are probably not strong enough or not frequent enough. My vet let me have steroids to use quickly if Merlin slipped backwards (metaphorically)

Ari thankyou for asking a lot brighter today, still nowhere near his old self but i think from what they are saying it will take time to sort out his meds, back at Royal Dick on wed to test him again. Hes started eating tuna in brine with a few biscuits so thats good news, still will not touch his chicken breast which is not like him at all.
Quarabian i have lots to learn about treating him, i am sure we will get the hang of it in time .

You will get the hang of it.. Percy also needs to stabalise so at the moment they are trying to achieve 2 things which as this episode gets further away will focus on him having the right level of hormone for him to be healthy and happy.
My dogs often enjoy some scrambled egg or white fish after they have been ill...maybe something different might tempt him. xx

Thankyou SuziQ and Callisto , he seems to shiver an awful lot , he has always felt the cold but hes really bad at min, they have said this is normal . Had me up at 1.15 am as he wanted a wee, i didn,t get the door open in time so had to wash floor but i know its not his fault poor lad, he was barking to ask to go out. Had a good day today as i took my Arab mare to an egb ride, was taking the baby but shes going to her new home tomorrow so didn,t want to risk her. Arab has been in retirement for 2 years due to her not travelling alone but today she was fab just about 20mins of dancing on spot then good as gold, long may it continue. OH was in charge of Percy for the few hours i was away and he was fine giving tablets so thats good. Seems to be eaing better today

My old lab used to feel the cold (even when he was young) and mum made him a cosy jacket by cutting the arms off an old fleece jacket (human) and cutting the front down to fit and sewing it together to fit - pulled on over his head, he really appreciated it

Both you and Percy are having a rough time of it Sab2. Not easy parting with your baby and trying to stay positive for Percy. Hope things start to improve soon and Percy gets back to his naughty self again.

Callisto what a lovely mum your dog has , Percy has some coats to wear to keep him toasty, they are a little big at the min as he has lost weight but i am sure he dose not mind.
Firelight the lady whos buying my baby is lovely and has promised to keep in touch, long trip for her over two days but shes in safe hands with Eric Gillie transport so i am not worrying and i will enjoy watching her out competing in her new home and if it dose not work out she can come home .

Chin up Percy and you as well Sab2, sometimes it really feels as if we go through the mill and have to keep smiling. Arabianlines have helped me a lot with some pain but also happy times. Was going to say pleasure but then it sounded like 50 shades....kiss and warm hug to Percy.X
