We were planning to go to a Hunter Trial this Sunday but it was cancelled as the ground was too wet. There was another course having a schooling day and Tricky's (Tricarno Sun) owner very kindly gave permission for Hannah to ride him. She has never done cross country before; in fact the only jumping she has done was grid work once. They had a great time and it is so good to get out and do something in the sun.

Very inspiring! My ridden horse will be 20yrs old on Saturday, I often sadly wonder how much time I'll have left riding her. So it's great to hear/see veterans out still sound, well and enjoying their work. Fab photos |

Super horse...bred by Mrs King-Smith of the Comforts Stud and sired by Tricola AASB out of Comforts Carnavalle AASB in 1989
Wonderful to see him out and enjoying himself and hope you have many more years together having fun :-)

Thank you, Babs, he is. Netta King-Smith is the lady in the background, on one of the photos, with her dog. Brian is the one who competes on Tricky and the combined horse/rider/owner age has gone up to 173 years this year! |

Fabulous photos! Brack, may I give you some advice? Ride her as much and as often as you can because that's what keeps them going. I was riding Garnet well into her 20s and I've always felt that it was only an enforced lay-off of 4 months due to injury (mine not hers) that allowed her to stiffen up. I do understand exactly what you mean but try not to let anticipation of the future get in the way of all the pleasure you are still going to have together. |

I entirely agree with Garnet on this one: keep your oldies going as long as they are pleased to do so! Tricky looks like a horse half his age and seems to be enjoying every minute of his third age! |

Garnet has hit the nail on the head! Keep up riding; might need to increase hard feed but the fitter they are the longer they keep going. Drongo is 25 and still loves a whizz, trying to overtake anyone in front of him. Al Jabal raced every season from 5 to 20 years and would have raced at 21 if he had not been kicked. He won at 19 and was placed at 20. There are some horses that would rather be out of work and in a field but I think most, and Arabs in particular, love doing things.

I believe that there are oldies out there who will keep fit as long as they notice that they are still needed and have a job to do. In the past I learned a lot from these "professors" - things that I do not wanna miss nowadays.
Keep them going as long as they want to work and respect when they are showing to calm down.
Lovely pics, I`ll keep on fingers crossed that he stays like this for further years - even with a rider on his back or without.
