Hi folks! Has anyone used arnica on their horses & in what form did you give it? My friends mare took a nasty tumble today on the roads, went down on her knees & took a huge gouge out of one. She's going to be one sore girl tomorrow & knowing how effective arnica can be for humans I was wondering about suggesting it for our poorly girl ?
Any suggestions welcome

I definitely use arnica for horses - would give it in the tablet form -Arnica 1m if you have it -if not then Arnica 30 - 3 tablets every couple of hours for the first day if poss in a carrot or apple. I would give Aconite too for shock. I am not a homeopath so please check dosages elsewhere but I have found it very useful.

Also used with great success.. I had 30s at a rate of 4 for the first 48hrs every 4/6 hrs and dropped to 3 times a day

Everyone in my life brings me happiness, some by arriving others by leaving.

Ring Ainsworths the Homopathic Pharmacy. They will make up something called injury 200 which contains a number of remidies that will help.

Arnica at 30c 3-4 tabs every 2 hours for the first day then reduce it to 4 times a day for a couple of days. Rescue remedy is another thing that is useful.

I've used Ainsworths' arnica tablets and also various gels for direct application. I used Gold Label arnica gel for years on Garnet's knees and more recently a blue gel which contains arnica and menthol which was brilliant on a huge haematoma I sustained after a fall. I would imagine it might sting on an open wound but could be rubbed in the surrounding area. Excellent stuff.

I would reccomend arnica for horses. It helps with imflamation so perfect for the job your frind needs it for. I have used it in tablet form. Just put under the lips or in a peice of apple or preffered treat.

Not recommended to use arnica on broken skin though - I would use manuka honey -have had excellent results with that :-)

Thanks so much! I suspected this was the case & popped into the pharmacy to pick some tablets up. The wound has been treated & dressed by the vet. Hopefully the arnica will go some way to help her healing
