What an amazing difference......in such a short time....shows it is clear she had been very underfed and had her feet very neglected with her previous carer
How could she have possibly got into such a dreadful state...but now thank goodness..she looks well on the way to make a complete recovery. What a tough cookie to have not given up. Hope she now lives out the rest of her life, never ever again knowing starvation and neglect
Thank you so much to those who have given her a chance and for keeping us updated on her improvement
Huge hugs for a wonderful old lady

Seems Paris is now fit enough to travel and will be moved to the EMW Sanctuary this weekend, as EMW explained in their FB page:
It looks like we're on for Paris moving to sanctuary this Sunday. @Lianne Evans and @Michelle Kestin will be bringing her and seeing her new home. We're all ready for her and hoping she continues to thrive in our care. Watch out for the photo's showing her arrival and settling in. The log of her well being will continue to run as we see how she fairs. We'll be inviting our vets from Belmont@Bromyard to assess her early next week and then ongoing as she progresses.

EMW has communicated that Paris won't be moved to the EMW sanctuary today. Here is the full announcement:
The decision has been made at a late hour not to move Paris after all today. The veterinary visit has suggested that she waits a while longer to add yet more condition to help her withstand the journey. Equine Market Watch Sanctuaries (UK) will always abide by veterinary advice. Our most grateful thanks go to @Michelle Kestin for being on standby to move Paris. We will continue to support Paris in her foster home and of course keep her many followers informed of her condition in the days and weeks ahead.

A new update by EMW:
UPDATE ON PARIS- After a lengthy discussion today with one of the attending veterinary surgeons, Lisa Durham, we have made a joint and mutually acceptable decision to keep Paris in situ fostering with Lianne for the time being. Both the vets and I feel she should reach 400 kilo before travelling as she needs to be as strong as possible to cope with the journey as well as the upheaval of coming to her new and final home here at the sanctuary. Our most grateful thanks therefore go to Lainne for agreeing to continue with her good care up to this level and also huge thanks to our field officer Michelle for making sure her all needs are met, on behalf of the charity, as well as being available for support when it is needed. We will continue to update you all very regularily about Paris and her journey towards, we hope, good health and her final journey to the sanctuary in due course. The way she is gaining weight we all anticipate she will be ready to travel in 2 to 3 weeks time. She will be weight taped again in the next few days and will also have any necessary dental work carried out so we hope she will have added a few more kilo to her total. Thank you all for the good wishes and for the kind donations towards her ongoing care, also to the veterinary surgeons for their support and concerns and lastly to the AHS Welfare for back up and support. We know this old mare is special to you all but we can assure you she is very special also to those who are now caring for her and supporting her too.

I've just read on FB that her weight had increased from 307kg to 340kg - I think that is in about 3 weeks! If she can do that relatively easily (being fed Simple System food I think), how the h@ll had she got to a body score of zero before being fostered by EMW?
I've only just found this topic.....being at the top I missed it drrr !!! I think Caryn summed this up very well - how the **!! did she end up so poor when it is obvious it was just a lack of food and care and not a health issue :(
Anyway, huge respect to the team caring for her and nice to hear Lisa is over seeing her care.....look forward to more updates on this special lady :) |

I too have only just found this topic - like Delyth/Caryn I ask how did this poor girl end up in such an awful state? However, she is in the right place now - HUGE WELL DONE to those who are helping her back on the road to recovery Would like to know who the "rider" is in the photo of Paris in 2010.

Another small update. Paris keeps improving, added more than 50 Kg in just 4 weeks or so:
What a smashing way to finish a good day. Our field officer Michelle has been to see Paris today and weight taped her and taken Lianne some more Simple System Horse Feeds What super news that the old mare is another 20 kilo heavier than her last weigh in. If she carries on like this she'll be ready to move to sanctuary by the beginning of September.
And a Paris pic, from today:
As an exception, if you want to help, use their donation page.
As I said before, I also have a paypal address, which I can PM to anyone interested in helping through paypal. |

What a beautiful Mare and it's so encouraging to watch her progress. The latest photo brought tears to my eyes - she is so lovely and so deserving of the fantastic help from EMW they really are a marvellous charity. I have donated and will do so now on a regular basis, plus giving them an editorial mention. I like many of you feel very sad and let down by the previous rescue as I also donated to that, and now it is blatantly obvious that this Beautiful Mare was not looked after, was not fed properly and obviously had very very bad turn out. A lesson learnt and I hope the previous rescuer will think long and hard in future about what she decides to take on. Good intentions are not enough and help should have been asked a long time ago. Especially looking at the ridden photo from 2010 where she looks great how did it go so wrong. Again well done EMW Michelle and the lovely Lianne for giving this splendid Mare another chance. Thanks Rui. I am astounded at how quickly the old girl is putting weight on - just shows that all she needed was food and that fundamentally she's in good health for her age.
