I contacted Lesley regarding Zareeba, the 3 horses in their mid 20's have been PTS at home. THey have not been anywhere else for years, and as some had medical issues Lesley did not want to subject them to a move. I have Zareeba and Krugers older sister, Zarello, and, although she is very fit for her advancing years, and has never had any issues with her feet etc, not all aged horses are as lucky, and if I was unable to care for her, I would have to think long and hard about her future, so I am unwilling to judge the actions of the Skippers regarding this. I know that they were in their mid 20's, and had been with them all their lives, straight from their breeder. The other horses who are younger and had no issues have been rehomed, so there are no horses with the Skippers at the moment. |

Thanks for that link Munchie.
So £250.00 fine and banned from keeping horses again.
If they have got mental health issues then this is the right result that they can never keep horses again, but saying that people I know with mental health issues care and love their animals becuase thats all they have in life and all they have to live for.
RIP the horses that died under horrendous conditions.

Thanks for the update Jackiedo. I am glad that the younger horses are rehomed, and I think the decision about the older horses was the right one. |

Poor horses. I feel dreadfully sad about their suffering. I live with chronic mental ill health, and my horse and meeting his needs as well as possible keeps me alive. No one who can pick up a phone or write a letter/email saying "help, please." should be allowed to use mental ill health to excuse cruelty. |

I updated this so we would now no there is no need for us to worry about these horses. No one of us are qualified to speculate on the health of the Skippers, and I don't think this really helps now. I just find the whole situation so very tragic and genuinely wish I could have helped, |

Jackiedo
Your posts on this thread have, so far as I can see, been focused totally on doing something positive for the future of the horses who remained.
The news of their rehoming is brilliant, thank you so much for bringing this news.
Respect to you Jackiedo.

I think 99.9% of people posting on this thread were concerned for the horses that died and the horses that were being cared for by the RSPCA.
A good outcome for the ones that got rescued, unforunetly not for the horses that had to be PTS.
People had tried to contact LS and she didnt respond and she also didnt respond further to this thread.
We were ALL concerned!! Perhaps if she had asked for help then this wouldnt have happened. A sad situation all round.

I am not surprised that she 'didn't respond' to 'people' who had tried to contact her; although I'm reading, and I hope I'm reading right, that she did respond to Jackiedo. So, for that, and the good news its brought us; thank you Jackiedo.
And again; I'm not in the least surprised that she didn't respond further to this thread; had she, it would have been most bizarre given many of the comments.
Its fantastic that the horses have homes; its very sad that we on this forum perhaps did not appear a place to come for help.
In fact, the whole thing is very very sad, in all its aspects.

I just saw the same article Eeyore and was quite frankly astounded that faced with the evidence (and I imagine those pictures are only a fraction of the ones taken) someone can plead 'not guilty' !

Mental health issues or not there is no excuse for this, that dirty bed has not just taken a week or two to build up, and the poor grey horse so very thin. Looking at the photo of her she has certainly managed to look after herself through all this, shame she couldn,t do the same for her horses. All she had to do was ask for help |

The pictures say it all really dont they!!!
Please dont try and turn it around that its all our fault for speaking out about it. She had plenty of time to answer questions before the thread got heated.
Shameful

Agree Paresh.
Wouldnt like to see their horses if they think that all this is ok becuase she had a mental illness.
Like has been said before that is no excuse, people with mental health issues think the world of their animals and wouldnt dream for one moment of hurting them or depriving them of a life that gives them the things they need.
Like I said. Shameful
