re deep litter - when we moved into our farm in 1999 - there was 17 years of so called deep litter. The sh*t in the pony box was the height of the door - and an electric socket had been put in basically on the roof - which of course now needs a ladder to reach it. Another building which is now made into two stables - we had to use a digger to clear it - and there were seventeen distinct layers of old straw and muck - and this had been the calf rearing unit !!!
My neighbor used a digger to clear the barns which had again not been mucked out for approx 17 years - and she found skeletons of dead cows etc in all that. We did get a bit of the purchase price due to all the work we had to do when we moved in. |

That is disgusting.....but it was the time frame I was looking at knowing that we dig up our barn every year and that never exceeds 12" ! No wonder the old stallion had laminitis and that the surviving horse had 6 months of remedial work !!
Re Zareeba.....the only statement made is that all the horses that needed care are in RSPCA care, which we know to be the partbred. He may still be there but there is a high chance they will be banned from keeping horses/animals so if your are interested in pursuing this then I'd get in touch with Gary Palmer. He might help you. Sorry I can't be more help. |

Not just shocking - I gather it was also illegal. I also found several sheep skeletons in our woodland - and that was also illegal. Still - better than finding them in the muck and deep litter I suppose. I had been told - oh well - that is farmers !!!
My neighbour did actually find a £10.00 note as well - which did clean up enough to be used. |

Another one here in 100% agreement with Delyth. The absence of LS coming back on here to give us her explanation speaks volumes to those who want to hear. There IS no explanation Lesley is there? I do hope the courts ban you from keeping any animal for life. That at least would ensure you can never inflict this suffering on any living creature again. |

Not just farmers Carole, there is a horse rescue a few miles from me ( i say rescue its more like hell ) and a dog walker found dead horses in their wood, rspca went out and of course nothing done , hate driving past there and all the locals have complained to no avail, shes trying to get planning and we think shes using the rescue as i way of doing it, buys them in from sales or is given them free then sells them on for profit, has a FB page and many support her although not sure if they have been there to see what happens. |

LS said many things !! Zareeba & Kruger may well have been left with her but she has been found guilty however anyone feels. There is an extremely high chance this will be followed with a ban from keeping horses. If you are concerned I'd certainly contact Gary Palmer to express your interest. |

I haven't had much time to spend on AL lately so have only just caught up on this thread but as far as I'm concerned (and that's personal experience) Depression is relieved by tending to/looking after your animals...for me horses in particular, they are the best therapy by far. Sorry but there is not an ounce of sympathy from me. They were obviously more interested in earning money sat on their butts writing than fulfilling the basic needs of their dependants!! Delyth I agree wholeheartedly with your truthful posts, I also would like to here the long awaited full story from Lesley herself....if she has the gut's to try and defend herself or does she know there IS nothing she can say to defend such cruelty |

Does anyone know what the verdict was? The H & H article said sentencing was on the 4th of this month? Hopefully a lifetime ban was handed out? |

I spent sometime yesterday having a ferret round the internet to see if there was any info re sentencing. Nothing anywhere. No response from RSPCA. Nothing in northern, specialist or legal press. Even sent a PM to LS which was a model of polite enquiry and concern, asking for result and her side of story. Nothing. Very curious to know what has happened and the welfare of the horses remaing (?) with her. |

Nothing has been reported in the local papers?
Last I heard, was that the horses in the hands of the RSPCA, are still in their care. |

I have now read all 8 pages of this as know nothing about it but I will say that had I seen any horse in a terrible state I also would go absolutely mad BUT how does this happen to someone who loved their horses soo much? I know a lady not far from me that has several arab horses now offered to homes Free of charge, because she is soo ill, if she cannot find homes for her horses and they were to go downhill would people condemn her? I am anal about my horses, not because I am holier than thou but I am healthy, I have a husband to help me, but only 2 years ago I was ready to give my horses to a charity because I feared that I could not look after them financially and I too was afraid of the attacks and what people would think of me, MORE IMPORTANTLY, how could I live with myself???? I WAS LUCKY, we had help from family and "OLD FRIENDS" who knew that we would return their kindness, it has taken 2 years to get back on our feet and not owe anyone anything now, we have both worked hard, me going back to work after 3 weeks after major surgery and simon 4 months after surgery for thyroid cancer, but we did it, we could not have done it without help. My point being is to quote someone on here t "There by the Grace of God Go I", I am in now way condoning anything and my heart breaks for the poor creatures that suffered the horror and the pain, but read these posts with a little detachment and you also will see how frighteningly aggressive some of you are , why was she afraid to ask for help? I feel very lucky in the knowlege that I have asked for help on here in the past and was lucky enough to get responses from the genuinely lovely people on here who know who they are, but there were a few that attacked me and made me feel awful, be upset for the animals that suffer and be angry at who caused thier suffering but Please Do Not Judge them, Please God if my animals were in danger of being neglected or suffering at my hands for whatever reason I would want someone to step in and help me or take them before it was too late....for the sake of my beloved animals. Please don't attack me for this post, I am just looking at it in a detached way not to inflame anyone and its only my opinion so not really important hugs to all the people that care |

I read the article from the local newspaper with great dismay. is it true that Nvalis was pst on order of the rspca? I am certain that in the last book I bought wrote by her she had a tribute to him and that he had just died. This was I think before the rspca action? |

On the surface it doesn't seem much for the suffering caused to those four hores. And banned indefinitely from keeping horses, sounds to me like they could possibly be keeping horses again within a short period of time. I would have thought something like 10years .or even life would be more appropriate. Doesn't appear that there has been any justice for the 4 horses. |
