Had a really good day with the horses today I've hacked out Connor quite a few times in company now, but only done short hacks on our own.
Anyway, this afternoon we hacked out alone for about 1 1/2 hrs To get to the bridleway, we had to cross a busy 'A' road, ride through a housing estate, and past a building site.
Once on the bridleway we passed a farm which has what looks like large dog kennels, which house calves on the roadside, through open fields, rode past the woods which at this point we met the local school running on their x-country course. Loads of teenagers running towards us but Connor took it all in his stride.
The only major worry, (for me more than Connor) was when a 2 large dogs came haring towards us at a great rate of knots taking no notice of their owner recalling them what so ever!!
Me and Connor are building up a great trust with each other but I don't want to push my luck (Connor has got to know that I will look after him and protect him) so at this point I quickly dismounted, started waving my whip at the dogs like some mad woman and tried to shoo them off verbally as well.
Took a few minutes for the owner to catch the dogs and she did glare a bit at my antics but hey-ho if she can't control her dogs then I'm not going to taking any risks.
She did apologise eventually.
I then remounted and finished our ride.
So pleased with him. What a brave young man I've had Rosie for sooo many years that initially I thought it would be weird riding something other than her but feel really comfortable on Connor
