Trouble is its been going on for years, we make a fuss and talk about it between ourselves and nothing ever gets done ! I stopped going to Scottsdale as it is even worse there , and now I have also stopped going to Vegas, as when they started the show it was going to be different , done on european system instead of American system, actually all that was different was the point system , the abuse is everybit as bad I guess talk is cheap unless its followed up by actions. |

To be honest Lyndilou it puts me off going to quite a few of the bigger shows, can we not start a petition of some sort, to insist tougher ruling for this type of behaviour does anyone know who we would send it to. |

Perhaps if ECAHO our not bothered ,perhaps this video should find its way to the media and expose these so called horsemen. |

why not send into H&H online and the showing magazines and give the individuals shown including the DCs and judges the right to reply... |

Please excuse my naivety, as I know little if nothing about the Arab show scene, or even the "normal" in-hand show scene. I've only ever been to about 4 Arab specialist shows (all in the UK) over the last 16 years, and although at those shows I myself saw no particular abuse, the exaggerated stance of the horses, the loud music, the bags on whips, the rattled cans etc. made me decide very quickly that I had no interest whatsoever in becoming involved in Arab showing. (BTW, I own 4 purebreds).
My (perhaps naive?) question though is - when were DCs introduced? I have never heard of DCs being required at "normal" horse shows (although I stand ready to be corrected). It seems to be that the introduction of DCs at Arab shows was an acknowledgement that the powers that be had recognised that unseemly practises were going on. The presence of a DC, to the outside world, gives the impression of someone keeping a vigilant eye out for abuse/rule breaking - great positive PR for a show scene that receives a lot of bad press. But it seems to me that the DCs are in fact just figureheads, put in place to give the appearance that rules are adhered to, for PR purposes only.
But if the powers that be know this, and the DCs themselves don't have the courage to speak out, then much as I'd like things to change, I can't ever see it happening. |

They look like they have had electric shocks used on them or had their handler turn on them for no reason or both. A pity they don't have an in hand session and then the handlers have to get on and ride afterwards. What are the judges doing just standing there watching all this rubbish?
Actually it is a disgrace, a disgrace to the breed and it lets down all reasonable folk who love and cherish their horses. No wonder people think Arabs are a bit of fluff on a string.
So these are future riding horses?
Oh and by the way, when did Arab movement include such a lift to the knee? |

Embarrassed to be associated with the breed when I see such atrocities. I hope no-one thinks my horses won prizes through such disgusting methods. Not proud to have a "showring" Arab if this is acceptable
I just can't for 1 minute imagine trying to rehabilitate those poor stallions to be ridden with a steady head carriage

The card system could be implemented, along the lines of a licencing system for handlers then the welfare of the horse would be addressed, under this system points added onto a handlers license if abuse is used maybe CT cameras should be installed in stabling areas as well as collecting rings, name and shame handlers judges and DC on this Video while we have the opportunity before Paris for the same to happen again maybe a demonstration is in order, and videoing on mass |

Bravo to whoever put that video together. Words failed me completely when, at 2 minutes 7 seconds, handler with 110 actually waits until horse's nose almost touches his hand then looks to punch it in the face (in the middle of the ring; in public??!). I absolutely take my hat off to the ringmaster who was visibly trying to make a stand in the face of quite staggering behaviour, even by today's standards.
This simply can't go on. |

Many, many thanks are due to the person who sat in the audience and patiently videoed ... it wasn't pleasant to watch and unfortunately this video pretty much sums up the show. It is what I felt I was seeing after watching the show on Saturday and I felt very grubby by association. However their edited lowlights, need to be played to the judges, the DCs and to a special handlers meeting held just before both the European Championships and World Championships. In fact can't we lock the DCs and the handlers in a room the night before and play this on repeat with the message that if they can't sort it out between them , we will just send the video with show catalogue to the more unpleasant of the animal rights groups..... |

Well said Emma in fact why doesn't someone send a copy of the video to some of the "more unpleasant" animal rights groups - who knows they may have done already !!! I think the owners are in the same category as the handlers actually, they should be visited too for allowing such total cruelty to their horses and not removing their animals from these "so called professionals" and why didn't the judges DO/SAY something to those handlers at the time? They are all a disgrace !!!

BAN THE WHIPS, BAN THE CHAINS ON BRIDLES AND BAN ALL THOSE PICTURED ON THAT VIDEO FOR GOOD!!!!
I MOSTLY BLAME THE OWNERS FOR ALLOWING THEIR HORSES TO BE SO CRUELLY TREATED.....THEY ALL NEED TO BE NAMED AND SHAMED....HOW MANY OF THOSE VIDEOED ARE OWNED BY BRITISH EXHIBITORS OR BEING EXHIBITED AND PRODUCED BY BRITISH TRAINERS???
AGREE ALL THE WAY WITH EMMA`S SUGGESTIONS. GET OUT THE RED CARDS AND ACT UPON THEM!!

O M G... Well the evidence is there for you all to see. No doubt some people will continue to send their horses to these cretins.
God only knows what goes on behind closed doors.
Is a piece of ribbon really worth this abuse... like hell it is.
Shame on them all, and the owners that have dealings with them.

This video has now hit many other forums, mostly non Arabian, and the responses articulate what is being said here, and more. Strange how the supporters of this style of showing have suddenly gone deadly quiet. Perhaps they are hoping this storm of protest will blow itself out and they can get back to business as usual. The day of reckoning will come one day and, with photographic evidence such as this being posted on the internet for anyone to see, there will be no hiding place for those who blatantly subject these beautiful creatures to such levels of abuse and intimidation. Money may talk now but it won't hold back the tide when the groundswell of opinion gains enough momentum to outlaw such abuses. People will remember the video evidence and some jet-set lifestyles might be in jeopardy in the not-too-distant future. Mud sticks! |

So refreshing to read all the responses of overwhelming disgust at how these horses are treated. At last more people are seeing it for what it is or maybe they are more willing to speak out as normally when we have these threads there is quite a heated debate from the people who support this type of showing. All quiet here. I guess there is no argument and how can you support this and how can you send your horses to these people. Hang your head the lot of you!

I have never been to a proper arab show so, as I have a very vivid imagination I have been trying to imagine what you have all been talking about BUT........even my imagination could never have come up with something so awful. I watched that video and cried. Even if some of those horses were owned by people they trusted, who really did love them, how betrayed must those horses have felt ? To see the natural grace of the most beautiful horse in creation so tortured and crippled by callous brutality was unbearable. I was thinking of showing my beautiful, joyous, gentle, trusting Kessa next yr but that will not happen now. Although I would have chosen Louise Brian as handler and know she would treat Kessa kindly I will NOT NOT NOT support a 'sport' that allows and encourages this disgusting cruelty to continue. I will also never breed a 'show horse' from her in case it ends up with one of these handlers. I am a gentle person by nature but I really feel like calling a friend of a friend of a friend who has people'taken care of' for a fee !!! |
