Anyone who applauds and says they enjoy showing at this level must be truly warped! That is abuse, absolutely NO argument. I feel heart sorry for these poor horses. |

This videois now doing the rounds on facebook and hopefully, fingers crossed something can be done to stop this vile practice of showing our beautiful horses in this way. People have got to take notice of this now, I know the video is *put together* but you wouldnt have a vedeo if it hadnt have happened.
Anyone who sends their horses or has one of these so called trainers show their horses hang your heads in shame!!

Lyndilou, I didnt make it, just found it on Youtube
Debs, the man with the hat is the ringmaster Sven Svensson. I would be happy to name a few of those handlers, but Im sure most ppl will recognise them. A few of them are no surprise to me at all! |

I was at Aachen this year and want to point out that not ALL handlers behaved like this!
Some of the horses, especially the Polish mares, floated into the ring in time to the music and were absolutely serene.

I just found time to watch the video C Ma posted. I am in floods of tears. If this is arab showing I want no part in it.
I know this is a collection of the worst parts of this competition, but the horses are not having fun or being allowed to 'show' themselves. The art of showing is surely to present your horse in such a way that the judge can see him at his best. If this behaviour is for the safety of the handlers then something has gone wrong with the breeding and or training of these gentle horses. |

OMG that video is horrific. NONE of those horses did anything to deserve that truly disgusting handling.
How do the owners and handlers alike sleep at night?

The pressure on the horse and the pain is vastly increased by the thick lead reins as the handler has more purchase and does not hurt his hand . How low can we go? We have an old show horse here who had a dental ex-ray which showed a broken bone exactly where the chain is and the dentist said it happened around 2 years old . Shanking with thin lead reins then so imagine what damage is being caused now . |

OMG, OMG, OMG......just watched that video..FEEL SICK, ANGRY, BLOOD BOILING!!! HOW COULD ANYONE SIT IN AN AUDIENCE, WATCHING THE AWFUL ABUSE AND SAY THEY ENJOY THE EXCITEMENT OF THE SHOW!!!!
THOSE CRUEL SHANKING CHAINS, CONTINUALLY BEING SNATCHED AND YANKED AND THE LONG SWISHING WHIPS REENFORCING THE PAIN AND FEAR OF WHAT MAY COME NEXT
SHAME ON YOU ALL...JUDGES, D.C`s, RING STEWARDS, HANDLERS AND OWNERS, FOR CONDONING SUCH BLATANT ABUSE AND CRUELTY TO OUR BEAUTIFUL, INTELLIGENT AND GENTLE ARABIAN HORSES.
PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT ALLOW SUCH HORRENDOUS SIGHTS TO BECOME THE ACCEPTABLE NORM IN OUR BRITISH SHOWRINGS (as I fear we are already heading that way)

I particularly noticed one handler winding the lead rein around his hand. This not only enabled greater yanking ability, but if he could have been dragged if the horse took off. |

I watched some of Aachen when it was streaming live but didn't see any bad handling behaviour at the time. I have just watched the utube video and it's sickening, how can people do this such beautiful and sensitive horses?!

I do not expect an answer from ECAHO. They are powerless and cannot even apply their own rule 33. |

I have copied Princess Alia's reply, she is not happy about it and may well fight the corner yet !
Alia Al Hussein WAHO will say they dont get involved in horse SHOWS- or so they used to say. However perhaps they WOULD be willing to be more proactive as so far it is only getting WORSE,brazenly and openly! And Dr Nagel IS a real horse LOVER. But really this is NOT ok,this video-the vicious yanking at the heads, the clear fear...NOT OK!+ |

Excellant news Lyndilou you are an angel bringing this to her attention.
I have just watched the video and feel sick, how cruel and low can someone go for a result, PATHETIC.
It has made me think diffrently about showing my boy next year at the bigger arab shows in hand, i think i will focus on his ridden career. All for points and status its a total discrace.

I will never take Kirstie to a show which supports this kind of abuse, think I will stick to ridden classes where no one can hurt her. Mary |

WHY IS IT IN THE FULL KNOWLEDGE OF THE ABUSE AND CRUELTY THAT GOES ON AT THESE SHOWS.....WHY DO OWNERS SUPPPORT AND THEREBY CONDONE THIS DISPICABLE CRUELTY, BY EXHIBITING THEIR HORSES OR SPECTATING???
OWNERS,IF YOU REALLY CARED AS YOU SAY YOU DO.....YOU WOULD NOT SPONSOR OR MAKE ENTRIES. PROVE IT BY BOYCOTTING SUCH DREADFUL ABUSE. PROVE THE BRITISH CARE!!! EVEN IF YOU ARE SURE YOUR HORSE IS NOT BEING ABUSED BY THESE SO CALLED "PROFESSIONAL" PRODUCERS...MAKE YOUR PROTEST BY REFUSING TO SHOW OR SPECTATE AGAIN UNTIL THE CRUELTY CEASES!!!

The problem is if we boycott these shows they have won!!
We need to be at these shows and show the British way, the kind way, well some us anyway!!
If kind handlers stop going to these shows then it will make it that only bad abusive hanlders/trainers go to these shows and it will spread!!
Judges need to stand up and be judged now, so do DC's, if you dont want to give out disicpline to these so called top handlers then jack the job in please and let someone else have a go who will stop it.
Letting them have the show ring is not the answer here I am afraid. Standing up for the rules is!!!!!!!!!

I have just watched the video and I will say I have never seen shanking before. Iam truly shocked and wept for those beautiful horses being abused. The pain the handlers inflict on the head and neck must be unbearable. Through all of this, the horses keep 'performing'. Iam so,so sad to see the audience clapping and actively encouraging this act of cruelty. |

This will be my ONE & ONLY post on this subject...... I am proud to be owned by my Arab - she is sweet, gentle and trusting - we show (at low level admittedly) with no shanking, no whip and no abuse - she shows herself naturally and that is how it should be - the video made me sick to the stomach and it is no wonder that the general equine community tend to view Arabs as "mad" when they see clips like that!! |

Awful video and quite a few are from this country and are well known on the showing circuit, although Arabi was only really shown in hand as a youngster he was shown and trained by Emma Maxwell, and if ever I was to get anyone to show him in hand again she is one of the people on a very small list of handlers I would trust.
Seeing that it half makes you want one of the horses to have a go back, it just goes to show what tolerant animals they are really and most really have no anger or aggression towards us, just fear which is really sad and people pay for that service and clap and cheer which I find crazy, at the end of the day if no one employed these people they wouldn't be in the ring.
At least that judge did try, I think its disgusting that they get away with it they should all have been sent out and disqualified for that behaviour. |
