I have been following this thread from the beginning, commenting just once. Many thanks for supplying the info for who/where to address concerns to, I will also be doing this later. Lets hope that as many as possible can do this and we can see a change for the better for our beloved Arabians. Carole. |

I emalied ECAHO who sent my email to Princess Alia who is on our side. She has responded with a lovely letter and is asking for people to keep up the good work.
Cant think really what to do next only email the handlers association but I dont think they will do anythingto be honest.
I saw on FB yesterday a reply from a gentleman in USA who has seen all this going on over there and he said it completely ruined the Arab world over there with what they did. These rich and * Iwant to win at all cost* type of people when they get bored bugger off and find something else to do leaving these handlers with no mmore work, the small person wont use them becuase of their practices before and that leaves them no work!!
It really needs rules setting in stone, the judges need to stand up and be counted, most are terrified of sending out a horse that is showing fear for fear or repuccssions.
The only thing I can think of is to BOOOOOOOOOOO the hell out of these handlers when they shank, we are always likened to football hooligans so why dont we BOOOOOOO them!!

Hi all
I have also emailed and I also had a reply from Alia and although she understands the conerns she is blaming the US for the problem and lilly livered judges who will not stand up for the horses....shame on the judges...who selects them anyway??? ..we need judges with balls and courage and DC's with sharks teeth.

I have emailed ECAHO. To see little fillies petrified like that was utterly horrible. Arab showing is going the way of Tennessee Walking Horse showing in terms of the abuse by some trainers and owners. Confusion, misery and pain for the "beauty contestants". It does my head in.

I emailed ECAHO this morning and have since received a reply from HRH Princess Alia. They do seem to be reading all of our concerns, so please keep on sending yours in.
Power and money do talk but the Arab Spring in several countries this year showed that the ordinary people can bring about change, if they stand united and bring their plight to the attention of the world. The Arabian horse cannot speak for itself but we can be instrumental in changing their lives for the better, but it needs, courage, unity, determination and fortitude.
All of us who oppose the abuses to which they are subjected do wish to see their powerful, elevated trots, natural exuberance, majesty and gentility, but where these qualities are nurtured, not inflicted or controlled through sinister cues. |

I have just emailed - and I really hope all our efforts will be rewarded. I used to show an Arabian Stallion years ago both in hand and under saddle - but I would not entertain getting on some of the poor animals that are shown in hand today - after someone has messed them up both mentally and physically just for the sake of a rosette.

can someone please email the address so I can write.
The whole business is just disgusting. If thats the crem de la crem ist no wonder support for arabs from other showing people is declining. Just makes me sick to the stomach that judges allow that right in front of them. I hope one fo the handlers end up with a dislocated shoulder when the horse jerks it while rearing. |

OK well I don't often comment on here but the showing issue was addressed by me at the AGM TWO YEARS AGO...I WAS ACCUSED OF BEING 'JEALOUS BECAUSE I WAS'NT A WINNER', I sent an e-mail to ECAHO and did not get a reply...that was over a year ago.... I can only say this...I am careful to try and only to go to shows where the behaviour of handlers/owners is what most of us should expect.... I believe that if YOU know that this season, a show you went to supported this disgusting behaviour ...then don't go in 2012...that's how it gets sorted out....BOYCOTT. SIMPLE !! STAY HOME, ENJOY YOUR HORSES AND SAVE MONEY TOO !!! IF YOU WANT YOUR HORSES TO BE SEEN BY OTHERS ...INVITE PEOPLE ROUND TO YOUR PLACE ..DON'T EXPOSE THEM TO ALL THIS....PLEASE. |

If you boycott they win - they don't care if we don't go. Infact they'd be pleased. Let us become the majority and make a difference !!! They may be small steps but they are positive ones. |

I've emailed ECAHO...I truly believe that if you don't become involved with trying to change something that is wrong, then you have no right to complain about it - that is how the bullies and wrongdoers win - they get control and dictate what happens and only their voice is heard. Let's make it very clear that a large number of people strongly disagree - get those emails in! |

I have been reading this thread with interest and after talking with a friend of mine in the US I would like to tell you about a new penalty point system that was implemented at US Nationals last year. Last year judges were given the power to deduct penalty points off the horses overall scores if they felt the handlers used excessive shanking or whipping.
For me this is the best way for horse and handler! Owners will not want there horses to receive penalty points and potentially lose a class therefore relieveing the pressure from the handlers and in turn the horse.
The US system has it's faults as it is down to the judges to be brave enough to actually use the points which they did and in fact a top US trainer lost a national championship because he received penalty points. However if we were to inplement a similar system perhaps we could use an independent rather than leave it to the judges! the Ring Master? The DC's? Using these people in a more effective way.
I'd be interested to hear your comments! |

Tha sounds really good Jess. Nobody is out to stop these handlers losing their livlehoods we all want whats bets for horse and handler becuase sometimes its get dangerous in those rings with everyone flying around!!
I fully understand that points deducted is the best way forward becuase the judges, well most of them wont send horses out of the ring, we all know the reasons why and we s=wont go into it on here but an independant person watching and deducting points seems good.
Something really really needs to be done, we are a laughing stock of the world with the antics whats going on in the ring andf outside of it. It all blew up in the USA becuase of shanking and the frozen pose we dont want that here.

Would somebody post the email contacts for ETHA as I have Googled but would rather be sure I am correct, I have had my reply from HRH Princess Alia and just think perhaps the judging committee must have a contact address too any ideas |

That is the best idea I have heard so far Jess, and an independent person would HAVE to be put in place for fairness!! I think this idea should be put forward to ECAHO as it seems the only fair way ahead, boycotting is pointless if you want to continue showing the "right" way, why should we be penalised for what they are doing? why should we not be able to go and enjoy the shows because of the (hopefully) minority of cold hearted bullies. |

The solution can be as simple as ETHA agreeing a new set of standards in the ring . A level playing field for the horses and owners. Judges can also set minimum standards of behavior . All owners must adhere to those standards
The reasons why current methods are used are now unacceptable to the vast majority and the end result is "the end of showing" as Erik says . Of course there may not be agreement to handle naturally because anyone could then compete fairly with their own horse! |
