Maybe putting the cat amongst the pigeons posting this but just wanted to pick up on another thread that I didn't want to hijack, re Facebook. I know some don't 'get it' but surely AL is just a different version of it? We all post pics, have views, post numpty threads and say ridiculous things....we now have a 'like button'. Seems to me not a million miles away from FB? I do have an account, because my son and his family live in Saudia Arabia and it is a good way to see photos and messages. Skype isn't always available as the internet crashes alot. FB does have its faults, but if something annoys you, you can get delete it or choose to ignore it....bit like on this forum.

I will say that both AL and FB have been brilliant, met new folks and seen some wonderful horses. I have an open mind with both and try to keep it as light hearted as possible and not to take it too seriously!

With AL I choose to take part. Even though I don't have a Facebook account I am constantly bombarded by people inviting me to be 'their friend' on facebook. This feels intrusive.

No one emails me from AL unless I specifically give them that privilege.

I think I probably had 4 'friends request' in a year... maybe not as popular as some but you just decline them.

You can choose on either forum what you don't and do want.

The only people that could send you invites are people you have previously given your email address to. Personally i have no problem with FB, its been brilliant for getting in touch with old school friends & people i havnt seen for years, one of those being my Father who i havent seen for 17/18 years. FB is really down to how you want it to be, you can set it so you cant be found in a search if you really want, that way you can keep it as solely friends & family you choose to interact with. You make it as private or as open as you want, your choice. Its only an invasion of privacy if you let it be.

Got to agree with Quarabian with the above, hate facebook and find it intrusive. And yes I have had friend requests from people who I have never given my email address to. Love AL and the fact that I don't feel I have to 'take part' if I don't feel like it.

The thing I don't like about Facebook is the insulting and downright disgusting comments which appear. I am the least prudish of people and spent my whole working life with teenagers but some of the things posted by kids on our yard make me cringe!

On the other hand it is good for contacting old friends and for sharing photos. I suppose, as with most things, it is the way it is used which makes it either good or bad.

I am 'friends' on Facebook with a few teenagers with horsey connections. I am no prude either....but I am quite shocked by some of the things that are posted. It does give you an insight into the lives of today's youth...I thought I was bad as a teenager in the 70's
