How do you guys go about finding good trainers? I've been through a few but most seem to specialise in one aspect of training, i.e. dressage, jumping, Parelli, showing, etc. while as I seem to be looking for something I can't find.
This is my list of requirements (am i being too picky??): > Needs to know endurance and training for endurance > Needs to have a NH/Parelli/natural approach rather than the old traditional "kick and get on with it" approach > Needs to know arabs > Needs to know ex-racers > Needs a good understanding of muscles, joints, etc. > Needs a good eye for rider position/seat > Needs to be sympathetic, understand horse behaviour and be able to advise on issues not just in the school but outside too > Needs to either be local enough so I can easily travel there, or able to come out to our fab school without charging the earth in travel costs
There certainly aren't many endurance trainers about - I've already explored that route - and I have some lessons booked with a flatwork trainer for the schooling side, but that still leaves a gaping hole in my hacking out problems. And I don't actually like having to use a myriad of trainers, I would rather stick with a few so they can help us progress rather than just solve an issue and then leave me on my own as that's when I panic and things fall apart again.
Alternatively I could always continue pester you guys with my questions but I think you'd get fed up quite soon

It's a tough one! I hope to do my EGB coaching next year but I fear that will be too late for you. I've tended to use different people for different 'problems'. So a dressage trainer for flatwork. An IH RA for napping issues with Maj (who, I am delighted to say, is now hacking out solo and seems to be enjoying it! None of this: anymore when I ask her to walk one!).
At the moment, I don't think I know of one person who fits all your criteria. Which is why I'm looking to maybe go down that route and fill those criteria myself. If nothing else, it will help with my own horses in the future. |
