Very sad news - after almost 23 years with me, Garnet was PTS yesterday morning in her field amongst her friends and with the sun on her. She has been very well, enjoying retirement and cantering down the field to be with her boyfriend, but yesterday her big stiff knees finally let her down. She was such a little star - when she came to me she was a newly backed baby and I was a novice rider but we did more than I could ever have hoped for, both in competition and the many miles of high-speed hacks we enjoyed over the years. I shall miss her more than I can say; she was such a huge part of my life.
Garnet at Malvern
Garnet at the Cherif
Garnet's last public performance - winning Adult Fancy Dress (and fastest round the arena!) August 2006. I made our costumes for Haydock 1989. Mine seemed to be sadly outgrown!
Garnet last summer
Garnet with Jim the Cob on her 26th birthday last year. I was sad to think that they wouldn't be together for this birthday but now they will be. Both loved and missed so much.

Garnet - everything that a perfect part-bred should be. Loving, loyal, generous and versatile. We will miss your Garnet tales almost as much as you will miss her. I remember stealing her for young handlers at Haydock - and kissing her at every opportunity as her face was so soft. And then you donned the fancy dress garb and were off around main ring like loons. RIP sweet sweet Garnet L xx |

Oh Sue, so very sorry to hear you lost your loyal friend and soulmate.Together you shared many adventures and she will leave very many happy memories.
A wonderful versatile mare who had a long and very happy life...what more could Garnet have wished for. Can sympathise with you on the very big hole she has left in your life, having recently lost our beloved homebred Karitzi who died in her sleep, on the eve of her 27th Birthday.. Sleep peacefully dear sweet Matrons...gone but never forgotten

A lovely mare. A life well lived and full of love. You were lucky to have had each other and have enjoyed so much together.
So sorry for the heartache you are feeling at her passing, but take comfort in that she fell asleep knowing only happiness up until the end of her wonderful life.

Thank you all so much for your lovely kind messages of sympathy. I have just come across this piece of OH's handiwork and can't resist sharing it - I promise I only used to imprison them in the tight paddock for part of the day to control their weight and away from the gate are grass and hedges!

RIP Garnet... this made me so sad and feel for you at this sad time, but as others have said, she had a wonderful life with you and she couldn't have asked for more. Enjoy your memories. I am sending you lots of hugs. |
