I have asked Rui if he would lock the Fantastica thread. It is very very sad and you have all left such lovely comments it is time to move on. I realised I had given the filly a name used before, Blondie! so we have called her Ingrid after the vet who saved her. We often change the name and this name has much meaning now. She goes out in the sand school for a gallop, Syd the ram lamb has to stay behind, these pics will show you why!! Ingrid is doing really well and we are still very tired but feel more confident everything will work out. I want to thank the PM's and sorry if I havent got back to them all, I am so exhausted.
I have a lovely loan mare coming soon, who we hope will be able to nanny Ingrid and Syd, so we will keep you posted.
Thank you to everyone again.
Sue and John XX

I used to think my old stud groom needed replacingbut you know what they say Mair, the old ones are the best ones John might be getting on but he is the kindest most gentle handler ever. I wish I was a horse sometimes
Syd the ram lamb is definitely staying. He was not happy when we took Ingrid out to play, soon he will follow but how he will keep up I don't know
Excuse the messy barn, number 2 groom is very knackered right now |

Wow what a picture, it is special !! I always think once they've had plasma it sort of turbo charges the babies. In Ingrids case it looks like that theory works !!
If you have her on the bottle you might want to try a Shepherdess feeder once she's a bit bigger. Less work for you but perhaps, secretly, you are loving the baby at all hours of the day & night :) I would, she's a doll xx |

Hi Delyth, we have never reared an orphan foal before. So what I've done is glean all the bits of good info like yours and adapt them to suit us. I'm really grateful for tips and have a bucket here that will take over next week when we try to get Ingrid to drink from it as a way of introducing foal creep feed later.
I can't use a calf feeder as Syd will gorge the milk. John won't let me feed cold milk, he might when I make him get up for the 3am feed next week
Yes we are enjoying this, but ask me again next monthI might feel very different!! |
