looked back at some old photos and I think this is Harkem at Ascot. Perhaps someone on AL can confirm. Not sure what year but will try and look back in the old AHS News.
OH says that looks like Harkem, but it isn't Harkems connections either on or with the horse. But that Harkem was regularly ridden in Western tack. |

Alan, I hope you get some nice O/E mares to your lovely looking stallion ... is he in ridden work? Kastell, I agree with you, Spirit of Silver is another good example, dream breeding and a lovely person from what I hear. What a shame that he has no breeding offspring Cheers Lisa |

Jamana, if that isn't Harkem it must be his twin! Its exactly as I remember him from Ascot, apart from as you say the connections aren't right. I remember the display he gave with his disabled rider and he and David(?) were truly amazing. Possibly the most shining example of the love and trust that can be achieved between man and horse that i had ever seen. Truly inspirational. At a guess I would say mid-late eighties |

OH says that David was riding Harkem at the end of the 70's. He had given the displays before OH used the horse in 84.
Harkem was owned by Judith Ecock (who became Williams) but that isn't her in the pic. |

Ros, Rose is doing very well. She was a year old last September. She's still very small & sometimes gets a bit confused if you ask her to do something too quickly but she's happy, healthy but most importantly, HERE!! One of her full brothers, S A Sacred Spirit was given a premium 1st grading with the 2nd highest marks in his age group at the BEF young horse evaluations last September with his new owner at Solihull. Quite impressive as she'd only had him 5 weeks at the time. So well done to Ann Marie!! Thanks for everyone who's commented on Crystal Magic. He has been ridden but not for some time only due to lack of facilities. He's always done very well in hand particularly in Crabbet classes but has also had a a silver medal & been top 5 at the UK International. |

Thanks Lisa for your lovely comments about Blue. He has had a good life, was ridden for quite a few years but now is a pasture ornament. I did try to use him but he wouldn't jump on board!! Tried a dummy to collect but I think he thought we'd lost our marbles. Will have to resort to the vet if he won't oblige. Need a real slut or perhaps he would prefer not to have an audience or maybe I need to get him a video to watch!!!
Jamana I looked back at old AHS News and it is definately Harkem being ridden by Mrs Williams and is 1981. There is a piccie of him in the News as well. He was part of a delightful Mounted Cavalacade put together depicting Arabians in all their activities - racehorses, side saddle, hunting, harness, western, marathon team, ride & tie, showjumping, plus a costume group with arabian tent, goat and mare & foal. Also a part bred from Chipperfiels Circus took part. I think the couple next to him had or were buying one of his youngsters from Alison Hardcastle. Paulette

Just show this to OH,and whilst yes it def is Harkem it is not Judy Williams riding. He thinks it is Karen Ecock, Judys daughter. |

Hi Paulette, I bet he was fab to ride ! I can give you some good contacts for semen collection and freezing if you do decide to go down that route. I really feel it would be worth collecting from these lovely older horses to safeguard their blood, I may be able to help in a small way so anyone interested in this please pm me. Cheers Lisa |

Lisa Rachel has put it in a nut shell . Can there be positive action on her suggestion to gene-bank the oldies before it is too late? |

Alistair, We used Crystal Magic on Nahema who is a mix of Russian, Crabbet & Polish through Nimara & Spanish Egyptian & Crabbet through Hejaz. The result was S A Eternal Spirit & S A Khindred Spirit both of which are on our website. We are repeating that breeding this year as it works so well. |

Excitement!!!!! Having had a meeting with the Northern Group Committee today, they have agreed to put on an additional in hand class after the Crabbet in hand class at the Wetherby C Show in June.
This new in hand class will be called the Northern English Heritage class and will be open to horses with 75% and over Old English blood. For instance my own mare is 73.83 Crabbet, but is infact 90% Old English.
Rosettes will be sponsored by Nick and myself from Guisburn Stud, and we hope this new class will help to support this group, the schedule and conditions will be available shortly!
We've now got something for you fans out there, so please show my friends on the committee that I havent gone completely mad and support the class, which will be split subject to numbers!
All the best everyone Melanie |

Fantastic - spread the word and lets get this show off the road, if we get enough entries to split the class that would really show we have some mileage here! Melanie |
