Yesterday Chelle took Bertie x-country training. It was the first time he has ever done anything like this.
For those of you that don't know him, Bertie (Shahir Neesaan - Psyches Image R/Sushi) is 4 years old and was backed and ridden away by 14 year old Chelle last year.
He has had the majority of this year off but has just come back into work.
I was unsure whether to post this first clip but then I thought I would, as it shows how much a 'true novice' he really is and how much the horse can improve in just a few hours with a confident rider.
Poot Bertie was getting his legs in a right tangle and not sure what to do but he soon starts to improve.
Once we got about a 1/3 of the way around the course, we started to come across a few bogey fences, and it was Bertie that took the lead through the water:
and the drop into the sunken road, jump out,and over the log needed another lead by Bertie:
Absolutely thrilled how much Bertie and Chelle improved over the day!!
Well done Chelle & Bertie - keep flying the Arabian flag!!!
Looks like it was an incredibly worthwhile day for them both! Fantastic progress made. Bertie's clearly a little star in the making (mind you I thought that when I saw the pics of him cool calm & collected after a days hunting).
What a difference a day makes! As you say, a confident rider can give them the confidence to make rapid advances. He really looks to be enjoying himself once he understands what he has to do. Then, he does it with style. Well done!
Brilliant - Bertie was loving his jumping (as soon as he realised he'd got to get all 4 legs off the ground at once)! I loved him taking the lead on the drop etc.
Well done Bertie & Chelle!
