Had such a laugh with Rosie today.
Took her out for a hack & we came across 2 young lads leading 4 donkeys. Complete with bells!! Rosie was absolutely horrified.
Eyes & ears on stalks, snorting etc.
Eventually got her past, & one of the lads asked if she had just been broken in?
She must look well for her age - she 19 years young!

Then 2 days ago, we were hacking though the woods, & she stopped, looked at her front feet, & snorted. There was obviously some terrible monster there. She had me so convinced that there was something wrong, I got off her to check she wasn't trailing a twig or something on her tail, or there was an adder under her? Nothing there. Got back on & she was still convinced there was a monster?

Even when she has her daft days, I still love this mare so much!

I can just imagine the scene! Horses are such fun sometimes!

One of mine did that stopping dead thing and made such a fuss I got off and had a look and there sunning itself on a pile of bricks was an adder. I was back in the saddle and away!

aw - she's obviously feeling very well!

Yup my old gelding one day stopped dead... wouldn't budge. Knew it wasn't like him - was something wrong...? Got off - coudlnt' see anything but he woudln't lead... he'd just clocked the new overreach boots which were a slightly different colour to his usual ones and was convinced they were eating him from the ground upwards...dur....

I know just what you mean Rosie. Took Dizzy out on Friday as the solid, older, sensible companion to my friend's new horse. All went well until she clocked the gypsies who have set up camp around the village on their way to Appleby....we completed the the rest of the ride in half-pass and passage!! She's 22 for goodness sake.
