Ali, I will be going to Melton on Saturday and will look out for her. Very much doubt that she will be catalogued as the dealers usually either book a block of lots and say "details at time of sale" or enter them on the day of sale. But don't worry, if she is there I will see her.

If she went for good money then surely shes not gone for meat .I'm not convinced that, with out concrete evidence ,theres any need to be concerned. The info so far is 1. she fetched above meat price 2. a dealer has bought her. This does not suggest bad sitution or need for concern. Maybe the dealer already had a buyer, someone looking for a pally mare, so when he saw one at the auction her bought her for this client. Several posters have stated the dealer in question sells horses in good condition. Until someone shows me evidence of otherwise I cant see a reason for concern. |

Oh dear Joto, if you would like to go to address that can be given you can see fields full of mares and foals who have minimum care. Wait till the winter and then re-visit and you will see for yourself. This dealer is well known in the area that he lives and I can give you the names of people for 'reference' if you like These people would also wish to remain anonymous for reasons you can imagine.
I can only think that he must have had a buyer? He was adament on Monday that the mare was not being sold on and he did pay a reasonable price for an auction.
This poor mare must be so confused by now - taken to auction in a very poor condition and ridden around there (we all know what that's like) then a long journey in a crowded lorry - I know for definate that she wasn't the ony purchase made that day - 4/5 days in a new place and then off again to who knows where It doesn't bear thinking about
I do hope we can find her again - please don't give up everyone Judith |

I spoke to Turners at the weekend and was told they had nothing of her description there then. Trouble being she may have gone in since, I call again tomorrow. If need me I can drive across but its like a maze with horses in fields everywhere. Beeston Castle sale is next Wednesday I think, thats a similar area - anyone going ???
To the person that complained about previous postings - I hope you can sleep at night as this perhaps stalled everyone's good intentions and efforts and heavens above, has seen her see a very frightening and lonely end !! There is no sentiment with dealers. |

Hi all, I cant see Beaman sending her to sale if she is going to fetch less than he paid. He is more likely going to feed her up get her looking beter then sell for mre money especially if he knows there is so much interest in her. I dont know the guy nor heard the name before but ill keep asking around to try and find a friend of his to help as im only half hour from the area.

I always read this forum daily as the owners on here are so caring and committed. Have followed this story....just to say if she is located at Melton as I am in Leicestershire I have a 2 acre field full of grass that can be used as a holding bay, so to speak for Shulay Montana. It may be a pointless posting but the offer is here. |

I've been following this post from the beginning and have also been in touch with Mandy (Bridie). I don't get chance to post very often as always at work but must admit that Montana's story is something that has been on my mind all week. I am just outlining what I can deduce from the two different threads to see if I can make any sense as to what has happened to her.
We know for a fact that dealer Mr X bought her at the sale on the Thursday, paying £720.
We also know that Judith (Reagarth) has spoken to him on the Monday and he was adament that he would not sell the mare. We now hear that he has passed her on.
I think that one of three things have happened.
Dealers are there to make money, if he still had the mare on Monday and somebody was willing to buy her from him then in my opinion, without a doubt, he would sell her, albeit for more money but heyho thats his 'job'.
Secondly, if he had bought her for somebody in mind, why would he just not say so? That would take away the interest that Montana has generated and stop people enquiring about her.
Thirdly, Sadly maybe something happened to Montana between him buying her on the Thursday and Judith's phone call on the Monday, had she already been sold on for slaughter ? Maybe he doesn't want to tell anybody who rings that he has done this, it must be much easier to say that she has been 'passed/sold on' I have no idea how much a horse would fetch for slaughter but surely it would be less that the £720 that he paid?
The only sure way of knowing if Montana is still out there somewhere is if the dealer would confirm that he has/hasn't sold her for slaughter. Does anybody know him well enough to ask him this?
I do hope that we can find out exactly what happened as poor Ali and her breeder must be inconsolable. I know I would be.

The bit that really puzzles me is the 720 guineas that he paid for her?
Does anybody know how much a horse would fetch for slaughter?
It just seems a high price to pay unless you were going to get more money when slaughtered but surely not more than 720 guineas ? Liza |

Im sure meat money wont be near this price let alone the condition she was in at the sale, maybe he is telling people he has sold her on as he is getting phone call after phoen call its the easier option to stop people calling. Mr X does breed aswell maybe this was his intention, he paid more than meat money for her so i cant see her going for meat. Lets just hope someone knows him can help and approach him |

I too have been badly effected by this story, and to the woman who has offered her two acre feild, Thank you I wanted to acknowlge your kind offer Please God someone will get the facts on what really happened to this poor mare, even if it turns out to be the worst nightmare we can lay it to rest as the not knowing is the worst for me, at least if the worst has happened this poor little girls nightmare is over, which is heartbreaking I know but each day that passes is another day of suffering for her and all of us who so desperately want to save her from this nighmare and for the owner breeder who thought she would have a home for life my heart goes out to you, you at least should know what has really happened to her, I am thinking of you and praying for the little mare |

We cannot thank everyone enough for the support and help. We will try and speak with Mr Beaman when he returns next week. It may be he has sold her on very quickly, so if anyone hears of her whereabouts please pm me and I will give you my number.
We will never give up trying to find her as we need to know what has happened.
Again thanks to everyone, please keep hunting for her!

The auctioneers hammer went down at £720, life has taught me that means nothing, they probably ran her up & truth beknown the dealer gave a couple of hundred for her. Don't be taken in by the £720 - it means nothing !! |
