Dear Egbert,
You must be fed up with this by now, but in the even that you are not I would be SOOOOOOOOO grateful if you could share your insights with me about my mare's pedigree? Her name is Kuzira, her dam is Ku-Ribi and sire G Loventure. I am so ignorant about arabian breeding so you will have to excuse my lack of knowledge. If you have the time I would be fascinated to learn more. I have posted pictures of her under saddle on a thread titled "Kuzira doing dressage" if you are interested!
Many thanks,
Peg

I thought it was worth letting those of you interested in pedigrees and strains know that our very own 'Egbert' has agreed to speak at a seminar organised by the PR and Membership Committee of the AHS. Full details will be announced very soon but another speaker will be Peter Upton, renowned expert on the history of the Arab horse. It will be held at Claverdon Stud on August 31st. 'Egbert' is happy for people to bring their horses' pedigrees to have questions answered. |

Stupid question I'm sure, but where is Claverdon Stud? That sounds unmissable!
Egbert, his dam is a registered Highland, but I'm hoping they will register him as a PBA with the AHS. His owners already have a couple of fab PBA's sired by Akhira's Dad - Lochnagar, so they have high hopes for their new little lad. Our warmblood foaled last night. Have emailed you pics. Our only Akhira foal this year. I am very excited about her! |

First, Lauren, Thank you so very much for the All Breed citation! You are wonderful! Indeed, it is a lovely pedigree!
Hi Peg, First and foremost, the sire line goes to Nazeer via one of the most fabulous stallions of all time...He brings down the house every time he shows and that is the great, the wonderful, the magnificent Vodelej, your girl's paternal grandfather. Hopefully his phenomenal motion was transmitted to your Kuzira.
Vodelej's son G. Loventure, your mare's sire, is out of the great Kuhailan Dajania mare, Lalique DS renowned for her exceptional quality and beauty. Her pedigree is a who's who of international breeding featuring the best of Crabbet, Poland and Russia....with such luminaries as Salon, Bask, and Serafix to name a few. Even more wonderful is that Loventure's/Lalique's tail female traces to the most successful halter tail female line, Rodania via the fabulous SX La Quinta.
Kuzira's dam Ku-Ribi is by multi champion and British National Champion foal and British National Jr. Champion Kurashi a look alike son of the great Maleik El Kheil (El Shaklan's winningest international son) bred by the Maxwell's, the first to see the potential and use *El Shaklan.
Ku-Ribi's dam, Sahara was a daughter of the beautiful Sahara Duke who traced in sire line to Mesaoud via Astraled. Ku-Ribi also traces to the Kuhailan import, Mahawiliyah via the double Irex daughter, Rexbaya. This is significant because there is a beauty factor that comes through Irex and there are minimally two additional lines to Irex in Kuzira's pedigree.
Kuzira must be lovely and she is pure in the strain Kuhailan tho' from separate sources....She should be compact, powerful, athletic and very very pretty. (now to find her picture....)

Thank you so much both to Lauren and Gari!
Thanks for all the effort in explaining her breeding - that's incredibly kind of you and has given me much info I was unaware of, so thank you SO much!
I hope you managed to find her pics, I think she is very pretty, but then I am biased. Above all she's a great character, very opinionated but with a heart of gold and I love her dearly.
Thanks again!

Originally posted by blissyHi Egbert, Great here you are coming back to England for another talk, I hope to get there as really enjoyed the one at Al Whah. Here is the link to Bliss's pedigree http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/brede+bellissma.Huge thanks Maureen
Lynda,
No, won't be around for Malvern. That is just too long a time to stay away. May stay long enough to attend the Crabbet show at Belvoir.
Maureen,
Your girl's sire line is to Seanderich and the dam line is to Rodania, so she is a Kuhailan Ajuz of the Ibn Rodan. You are double Makor (ultra beauty) on both sides of her pedigree so she must be stunning with big eyes, and a soft beauty yet quite powerful as a riding horse with her dam line to Rodania....but mitigated by Pita's dam line to Bint Helwa.
On the distaff side, e.g., the dam's side, as previously noted there is the line breeding to Makor again on the sire line with the observation that it is a full brother in blood to Manneki, Bargoud, sire of Brede Gazala. What is interesting is that both Manneki and Bargoud are thus Seglawi to the Pole's Milordka. Interesting because this line takes forever to mature, and it is doubled, appearing on both sides of the pedigree, suspect that it took awhile for your mare to mature and she didn't hit full beauty til she was 8 years old...then she would have begun to bloom. She must have lovely motion as her dam line contains Count Dorsaz, a *Rissalix son. *Rissalix was dominant for his action and passed it frequently as a dominant gene characteristic. And Brede Bellissma's dam line is to Rodania, noted elsewhere as the most successful halter dam line and I suspect performance as well. It is perhaps a tad misleading. Her blood isn't rare. What is so wonderful about Rodania is that she passed her fecundity to the generations to follow along with excellent health. She was renowned in the desert as one of the great war mares and carried spear scars...so this was a mare of consequence and passed it along for the generations to follow.
All in all, you have a mare of beauty, charm, athletic ability, and breeding reliability. Think you would probably want to look closely at Seglawi line stallions as she is dominated by Kuhailan lines throughout her pedigree. I am particularly partial to the *Carmargue sons like Charissmma, Ali Khamsin, Arazi, then there are stallions like WH Justice....You've some wonderful choices out there! |

Treasure,
Thank you!...I look forward to meeting many again from last years seminar and new faces, too!
Becky,
That is a lovely foal and I thought he was a purebred, so it goes to show Akhira is truly a superb sire.
Peg,
I did find her pictures and what a lovely mare. Think she takes after Lalique but in addition fully reflects the promise of her pedigree. That is fairly rare, so Kuzira should make a stunning breeding mare should you want to go that route. |

Gari I am SO glad you are doing this engagement at Claverdon Stud - it's close to where I live and what a joy it will be to meet you and hear both you and Peter Upton speak. If you need any 'lines' that I have to use as illustrations, let me know as I could bring one/them. Unfortunately I missed Claverdon's open day recently so it will be nice to see their horses too. Can't wait! |

Roseanne, we will be looking for "line" horses for the seminar and we will keep you in mind when we arranging the seminar - thank you for the offer. It would be great if you can come and do bring your pedigrees for more information. There is an advert going into the AHS and s which will provide a little mroe info. For those of you who dont know Claverdon is in Warwickshire - a central location and we are very lucky that Joanne and family have allowed us to use their stud as a venue. |

Hi Sally, will certainly bring pedigrees and if you want any of the horses, do let me know, or email and I can send you details. Will look out for more details and be sure to get my tickets. Great initiative by you all at the AHS and so beneficial for us all!
Peg I do hope you can come, though I know it's a long way for you. Fairly easy for anyone as it's central and mostly motorway.

Cate,
Ahanu is lovely! Looks very unusual for a SE ...more powerful and athletic but every bit as lovely as one would expect a sE to be. Am praying you get your girl in foal to him!
Roseanne,
Thank you for the kind offer! Hopefully they will have some horses there that will serve as living illustrations. One thing I'd be very grateful if someone could bring a laptop so we can look up pedigrees on All Breeds. (Carolyn?)
Peg,
Will look forward to meeting you! Glad to have helped!

Cate,
Love your boy! He is unique...every bit as beautiful you would expect in a sE but looks tremendously athletic as well. Can't wait to see his baby with your girl!
Roseanne,
Many thanks...Would really appreciate it if someone brought a laptop we could look up pedigrees on All Breeds!
Peg,
It was a pleasure. Your girl is just lovely!

Gari, Thank you for your comments, yes he is quite athletic and he has a lovely ground covering stride quite different from the others in that he seems to have a higher action. He has a lovely neck set which gives him a really haughty look, or should I say presence.
He has a really steady temperament "Mr Cool" which I am delighted about because all my mares, especially Gwinnie when spooked or upset, are pretty "hot" to say the least!
I have two in foal to him, Celestial Silver as you know and my Russian related filly Gwinivine http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/gwinivine
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on Ahanu. Cate

Hi again Gari, and thank you so much for your assessment on 'Peggy'. Without doubt, she is a Kuhailan. Very shy at first, but ultimately very bold and forthcoming.
How are your ribs??? They must really ache!! Hopefully your lovely new filly will help you to heal.
Carla, xx. |
