Phew! Thank goodness for that Lyndilou...I thought Po had long ears because she has Donka in her pedigree!

Beautiful horses Jane; I also think Chiya has a lovely head and I don't think her ears are big! I guess it's cos you can see the base of them further down the neck. It's so good to see the horses whose pedigree's Gari has described. This is a very wonderful thread, though I will never really grasp the complexities of breeding. It's hard to take pictures of outdoor horses at the end of winter, but thanks Sasha for doing a great job taking pictures of Zakhahn, and to you Gari for your very kind comments. I must point out I don't own him; he's with me just for backing and bringing on a bit, though I am very fond of him. He has an unbelievably kind, easy and cooperative nature and is very intelligent.
I have another pupil due to arrive soon and I wonder if you would be kind enough to give me your opinion on his breeding Gari? He is Kamal OS and I love the fact that he is related to my precious Lance through Lalique. http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/kamal+os
Once again, thank you. |

LOOK! minnies ears long crimbos ears short although its not written in stone, it is expected that a stallions ears be short and shapely, but a mare seems to have a longer ear in general, I look at the ears as soon as they are born and can usually tell if I have a colt or filly before I check the under carraige |

What great looking mares....ears and all!!
Lyndilou, had a chance to check out your web site. WSA Charismma looks amazing and reinforces all my thoughts about his Carmague breeding. Don't doubt there is some great El Hilal influence coming through in his foals as well... great looking progeny for sure.
Do I take it you are States bound? Scottsdale maybe? |

No, sad to say I am stuck in the frozen north of Canada. But hey, no mosquito's these days. I have been watching some of the live video feed so it's almost bearable!! Have a great time and let us know how it goes. I'm sure Gari is a great tour guide. |

Oh what a shame but yes we will have a great time I am sure, Then I will be off down to Dallas to spend some time with my daughter and a chance to go and vist some cool studs in Aubrey I am very much looking forward to meeting the straight Spanish stallion "Sasaki" who lives there, he was the sire of my old stallion Bambooki ( and he is the maternal grandsire of Magnum Psyche) Bambooki is now unfortunatley dead but Sasaki is still with us and I want to meet him before he passes on, he is 25 I think I am going to write an article on him for the A /lines, and I shall be writing an article for the AHS about Scottsdale |

Sounds great, look forward to reading your thoughts for sure. Speaking of Sasaki, I understand that GreenGate Farms have an exceptional young Saski son, GG Bandelero. Straight Spanish he is said to be quite remarkable...California wouldn't be that far out of the way.... |

Roseanne,
This one is a bit of a challange because in my experience this blood mix will give different looks with different colors. I suspect gray and chestnut will be the two possible colors tho' there is a goodly amount of chestnut....but bay is a real possibility too as there are minimally 6 crosses to Arax! So your sire line is to Nazeer-for a bit of exotic, dam line to Rodania for absolute consistency-great breeding stock, phenomenal show quality in halter or performance, but there is an extra added fillip is that the line to Rodania goes via some of the most breathtakingly talented and gifted mares like his granddam Lalique, SX La Quinta, Faradina, on to the true progenitor of these remarkable fetes, *Rossana by Skowronek. Literally the mares emerging from this mare have been awesome. Incredible temperaments, phenomenal conformation, tremedous beauty, and a 'can do' attitude worthy of the world's greatest fighting forces. Nothing is too hard for this line to accomplish! They are worth their weight in gold. If you asked Kamal to leap from the White Cliffs of Dover to France...He would try! One of the great stories they tell about *Rossana is that they hooked her up to a cart shortly after her arrival from the UK. To their delight she was an old pro! They drove her all over the ranch and clearly someone had trained her to perfection. When they wrote Lady W singing her praises, Lady W wrote back that no one had ever put *Rossana in a cart, never mind driven her!!! This same attitude was evinced by a daughter taken back East to a convention in Missouri....(I think. Am working off of memory)...The delegates were meeting in the 20th story's dining room...and *Rossana's daughter was scheduled to be the evening's entertainment. She had never seen an elevator before, never mind a stage or an indoor restaurant! She performed like a champ and didn't even have an "accident" during the performance! She behaved as if she had done it all her life.
I'll tell you something, Roseanne...if there is anything wrong with Kamal it would have to be because there was brain damage. In the meantime he is a fabulous horse with a splendid pedigree. Will look forward to seeing those picts, too! Pedigrees just don't get any better! |

Gari thank you once again for your amazing knowledge and the time taken to tell me about Kamal's pedigree. I'm looking forward very much to getting to know Kamal who comes down to me in a few weeks' time. He's very dark grey at the moment like his Mum was, though she's now a very pretty grey - you can see her on this link. http://www.oakwaysstud.com/page14.html G Lalita is the common thread with Lance and if Kamal is anything like as great a personality or as comfortable a ride as Lance I shall consider myself a very lucky person indeed. He is rising 3 and very tall so I will be taking it very slowly with him. I won't have pictures for a couple of months I'm afraid but will take some (or get Sasha to come over again!). This is a wonderful breed with some truly beautiful horses; we're all so lucky to have a personal share with us all the time. Many thanks again Gari. |

Hi Gari,
I guess I've been hanging out at the wrong forums. This information here is of much more interest to me than any other topic on the Arabian horse. I am going to have to read this entire thread many times over to soak it all in. Fascinating stuff. Too bad there's not more discussion on this in the U.S. I'll be hanging around here.
Best,
Liane
