Paul -You're forgetting that of those 50 breeders there'll be 25% who hold 2 opposing opinions each on the same subject, another 25% who sway like reeds in a hurricane and can therefore cover 3 opinions each through a single discussion and another 25% who'll vary their opinion just to be bloody minded! I'm not alone in my opinion of Skyrzyp's prepotency for movement though. If only it was 100%! |

Hello Everyone
I own a Russian mare, who I would like to breed from in the future. Her lines are Top X G Gospel, parternal Grandfather Pesniar, G Grandfather Nabeg. Maternal Grandfather Peleng, G Grandfather Muscat. She as Salon, Aswan, etc also in here ancestors.
From the info I have given are any of you very experinced folk able to suggest a suitable husband for her?
In particular to Paul, how about Arastin?? I think he is gorgeous, incidently how tall is he?
Look foreward to some replies

Go and see Vodofon Kossack, he is standing at Marlyn Pollard's Cranleigh Stud in Devon. He is a fabulous chestnut Russian colt by Balaton out of Verba and is on lease from the Kossack stud in Holland. I think she's getting a promotional video done. Sue Bundy can probably give you more info or there is an advert in the AHS News. The pic in the News doesn't do him justice!!!! |

Hello Amanda, Best phone Marlene Pollard, she is easy to get in the evenings. Vodofon Kossack is very much the 'type' of Psynergy, so this will give you an idea.

Hello Amanda, Thanks a lot - Glad you like Arastin so much! He would produce a slightly different type of foal than most "straight" Russians. We think he is the ideal choice for our Palas (Russian - but famous in Poland) mares and our Balaton daughter. He is likely to produce slightly "dishier" faces and perhaps shorten the frame of some of the Russian lines. There should be little (if any) loss of that famous Russian trot as his own dam is by Palas out of a Bandos daughter. However, there are other stallions out there! Look around - judge the stallion by the quality of his foals. Paul

hello Thankyou, Lisa, Sue and Paul. I shall certainly look out for the foals of these Guys, I am planning to mate her in two or three years. First and foremost she is my "horse" and I want to ride her and keep up her training for a while longer. So this gives me time to watch the scene.

Hi,
Interesting discussion. I've got two russian mares, G Delilah out of Distancia by Peleng (so Sryzyp on both sides) and Barmensha, a Mukomol daughter out of Buhta (by Antey). Quite different in type but (in my admittedly biased view) they do move! I find them surprisingly level headed too.
I'm thinking of breeding one of them next year. Any thoughts on stallions? I'm looking for a big, strong performance type. Does anyone have any info on Dantist?
regards, Lucinda

Hi, Dantist raced about 10 years ago. He was one of a spate of Russian horses to start racing in the UK. He was dark bay as I remember and quite big. He had a fantastic race record and raced over two miles plus. I have an amazing picture of him at full gallop, during a race, and he had managed to turn his head and get his mouth around Div's neck. It was in a series of photos. He won the race but it was then awarded to Div, because of the neck grabbing incident. I'm sorry I can't tell you much more though, he was either with Sarah Kelleway or Jill Scrase, and I have a feeling it was Jill. She is in West Sussex I think.

Have always loved the Tersk bred horses that we owned, Mascat, Akbura, Emotsia and the lease and show livery Pakistan and Bespechny all vrate among my favourite horses that I've ever handled. Premier has many Russian characteristics, which is probably why he appealed to me so much, but with an added bit of that Polish quality. Russian horses on the whole are very jolly and enjoy life, which makes them great fun to own although I have met a couple where the 'panic button' is too easily and frequently accessed. Incidentally I've always 'blamed' the Russian trot partly on the large amount of Crabbet in their pedigree, especially through Priboj and Korej, but this far back one is always guessing. |

Talking of Pakistan,
I have one of the six your parents bred. Tambora was his mum. Did he have a good temprement, movement etc. and do you remember any thing particular about him? Do you know if he is still alive over there.? Managed to get two lovely photos from Sadika this year,so managed to see a good photo of him at last.
Thanks in advance Pat |

Hello Pat, Yes Pakistan had an excellent temperament, a very kind and intelligent horse. He arrived from the Tersk sale very fat with emphysema and attended his first three shows wondering what the fuss was about and not trying very hard. However at BAden Baden, he was 2nd in his class and watched the three winning stallions, Kubinec, Markema and Nahbay, all very flamboyant horses very carefully as they trotted up and down in the championship with the crowd cheeeing them on. At the next show the following week in Belgium he ambled out to the collecting ring as usual and then went in the entry gate and transformed into show stallion, complete with rears and snorting and ended up reserve champion stallion to the twice World Champion Warandes Plakat. On leaving the ring he changed back into bumbling Pakistan. We all adored this horse.Movement wise he was not the most spectacular Russian horse ever, but he did not race due a back injury as a yearling and was perfectly capable of getting 19's for trot, but not 20's.
I saw Pakistan this spring at the Royal Stables in Abu Dhabi where he looks very well (as usual). He lives in the next door paddock to Maleik el Kheil who also looks content and rather plump. They are both 25 years old now and still producing nice babies.

Sally,
Just had a thought you mentioned Distancia as a 'mover'. Did you see her in action? She's the dam of one of my mares, so would love to know more about her, if you did.
Incidentally, Mashuk traces back to Skrzyp via Salon and Distancia has him on both sides of her pedigree.
Another useful link for all Terk fans is : http://www.horsespirit.de/_/hp_horse/perfection/intro.htm which describes the different sire types.
regards Lucinda

On the subject of Pakistan, have any of you seen his beautiful and talented son, KAIS. He has a wonderful pedigree and as an overall picture is beautiful and functional. I first discovered him on an Austrian website and it was love at first sight. I ordered a video which had him featured and then proceeded to buy his son Kalinin. Both Kais and Kalinin have the wonderful Balaton stamp(Kalinin more so as he is double Balaton). Another example of the breeding power of Kais is the beautiful filly Shambala owned by V.Brown. Both horses are very kind and have lovely characters which maybe we can say thanks to Pakistan for such attributes. Must urge you to look at Espirit arabians. com to make your own decisions on Kais.

Dear Lucinda I sent you a private email but it hasn't seemed to have got to you. PLEASE can you get in touch as G Delilah is one of my daughter's (Joanna, and not Natalie as I mistakenly put in the mail)favourite Arabs. She has a (big)photo of her on her bedroom wall. She used to look after her during the summer at Silverdale a few years ago and has often wondered how she is and where she is! Is she ridden? Has she had any foals for you? Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi All
Probably a little late to enter the Russian Forum - but do love the Russian Arabs and follow articles wherever I can. Own a 5 year old Sambist (Balaton x Stihia) filly, the stallion nomination we won at the AHS Malvern Show a few years ago.
Her dam, Tamsyn, is Harwood Stud bred and we used to do endurance, but aim to possibly race our youngster next year.
Using the Internet you can find out an amazing amount about bloodlines, other owners etc
Great to read about other Russian fans.

Bill Stokes of Tranquility Farms in the USA died not too long ago - he made the Immortal Treasure video. I have a copy but wanted a new one, contacted them through their website but no reply even though they were advertising copies for sale. Maybe someone else might have better luck! |
