Hi What do you think of this idea and can anyone help me in my task.
I suggested to the committee that run Malvern that during the lunch breaks it would be great to see the wonderful Arabians that move. Two performed at Aachen this year and it was just amazing to see. They have said if I can arrange it they would love it .. What a challenge !!
I have one of my own Mahrouf Ibn Ahmoun, and I know there are plenty out there. Emma you have one or two that can show a leg, as well as Caroline with Magdalana not forgetting Vodelay. (sorry about the spelling folks)
Would you guys and others be prepared to take your horse/s to Malvern and show them off.
Please let me have your thoughts Sam

They usually have a display during the lunch but if the in hand lunch break clashes with ridden classes then there will be too much noise. Noise is a problem at Malvern (another topic!)

Brilliant idea Sam. They did(do?) something similar at the German shows. I read on SE that Orashaan (who just happens to be Dennis's dad) was shown in hand and under saddle, western style, just for the viewing audiences pleasure. It was not done in a way to promote stud or selling - more the versitility of the breed.

Thanks for you support, I am sure we all enjoy the sceptical we just need to get enough owners of beautiful moving Arabians to join in.
Look forward to hearing from more of you. regards Sam |

Sam Yeah I agree with Vera in such a great idea. My colt foal will be show as a yearling at Malvern next year and I would love to show him off. He is by Eldyr and a fantastic mover. As an newcomer to the world of arabian showing I spent most of last year watching in awe of other peoples amazing Arabians show off. It would make my day for my boy to be the one stunning the crowds, and he would love it !!!! Yeah defo count me and Kal in!! Nic

A lovely idea! I've always been a bit uneasy about the trend to have best head classes, much though we appreciate the extremes of type. Movement is so much a part of type that is often overlooked if the horse in question has a stunning head.
If it goes ahead I could bring my stallion, who always got brilliant points marks and cheers for his movement, and a lovely Crabbet mare who may not be so fashionable now, but can power along witht he best of them.
Would the horses have to pay an entry fee or enter a class as a condition of being in the display, as this might put people off. |

I think you'll be inundated with volunteers, how good it would be to show off your horse that won't show off in-hand but immediately its on its own says wayhey and trots with tail over back etc!
I'd like to see some stock that people might not want to show due to a blemish or injury and see it placed well down the line because of it, I'm sure there are lots of nice horses out there that aren't shown due to this reason.

Yes again, I agree that thee must be many out there whose horses have a minor problem which puts them down in a showing class that would be really impressive on their own.
The first show I organised, I did not have a showing class for stallions, as from observation only the Malvern and "C" shows got decent entries.
Instead we had a parade of stallions, where their former achievemnts and breeding could be read out over the tannoy.
We got 6 entries, all very different, and in showing terms the youngest current champion would have 'won', but some of the other stalions got customers as a result of the parade!
A non competitive class at Malvern would be excellent, and no time wasted with a judge so more horses can be shown to us the public in the same time frame.
PS, if mine come can anyone run fast enough to keep up with their trots as I can't! HELP! |

I have a little mare, not fantastically pretty and with badly scarred front legs, but she could trot for Britain and looks a million dollars in motion. The only problem she would need a fast handler and a long length of QE2 anchor chain or she would never be seen again

Just had an idea Sam! I seem to get asked quite a lot about the different types of Arabs.
How about having something like a Polish, an Egyptian, a crabbet, a Russian, an American type and a little 'talk' about each. You could even feature coloureds as their popularity is growing all the time.
I would find this interesting and educational - how about anyone else?

I think this is a great idea too....
Do agree with comment earlier about choosing time when ridden ring not in progress though as big movers cause uproar, and it could quite easily spoil a ridden horses show
Plus if ridden not on this might mean Cam2 could come and play, i'm certain he'd enjoy that |

Well. what can I say Dean of course if this goes ahead Ibby is yours.
The class will not be judged it will be for fun, there will not be a class fee and I will be negotiating with the stable charge, but you would have to pay for this.
If we have enough people interested this will make a superb display. I will have to ask the powers that be what we can do to avoid disturbing the ridden classes, as you are right it would not be fair, maybe they could have a lunch break too!
The next move is for you to email me with your address and the horse you would like to bring if you would seriously like to take part. Please send information to lesleymccarthy@hotmail.com. I am talking to Jean Mary in the New Year.
Vera the idea you have would also work well, and perhaps we could start a trend and have a special feature each year, yours would be for 2005 say,
Thanks everyone

Would it be worth considering say 15 mins after the last class in the main ring? No ridden classes to disturb and there should still be plenty of folk about, particularly if they knew that a demonstration had been arranged.

I do like Vera's idea of having a parade of the different types of arabs, that would be very interesting or a stallion parade of stallions at stud for the 2005 season, that way it may include stallions that owner's wouldn't necessary want in a show class due to blemishes, injuries.
