I have a 12 year old mare, a regular breeder, currently in foal by AI as she has developed a serious dislike of journeys more than three or four miles by box following an accident. Where can I get a list of stallions who supply preferably chilled semen, otherwise frozen, with a good fertility record. I rather fancy a black. Luckily I have an experienced vet. DOGAROO

If you get any fertility percentages please let us know. It may be that if a mare gets in foal eventually, it is counted as 'fertile'. a more useful measure might be how many cycles it took to reach that result. |

Thats a very good question
I'd be interested in knowing if such a list exists also, been toying with AI idea too.
Also who recommends the most experienced AI vets easily accessible in the north??
Dogaroo does your vet do a lot of AI's ?

It's not just the stallion's fertility that you need to worry about. A fall in motility can be caused by poor collection and freezing processes. I would recommend Twemlows and there is a lot of info on their website http://www.twemlows.co.uk |

Twemlows and the Matson family are 1st class and very approachable, but it is quite a journey to get there, along very narrow country lanes!! We have an excellent Vet in Leicesteshire who is brilliant at AI'ing!

Luckily there are at least two super vets for AI near me and the last two mares I have had AI'd held first cycle but they did have to be resident with the vet. I would appreciate it if anyone owning a stallion who provides semen for AL could contact me with details of fees, fertility etc. Also if anyone with a bit of spare time would like to offer to hold a list of suitable stallions it would save the very overworked office at Ramsbury. If no offers I suppose I could do it! |

I know Halsdon Arabians are able to offer alot of fresh, chilled and frozen semen and they have the 2 blacks Simeon Sadik and Ferryt. Another black stallion is So Black Al Arabi and he is available via frozen semen. I also see that R Ali Bey has frozen semen normally for oversea users, but maybe if you can bend Anns arm, you may have luck?
