Mike,
Would it be correct to say that the dam of your horse was a daughter of two DESERT BREDS

Hi Bob,
Considering that she was born in Syria, how much closer to "the desert" can one get?

Best Pal
Do you like steak
Let's say ARGENTINIAN steak
because if you did and you happend to be in Argentinia in 1936 (about your time) then you would have seen your horse in the flesh, his name was
SALAM - SBA*1177
16 Aug 1936 Color Grey Gender Stallion Sire ACTIF SBA*478 Chestnut 1924 Dam SEDI SBA*327 Grey 1919
the sire ACTIF is shown hear as SBA*478
BUT HERE IS HIS ORIGINAL REGISRATION
ACTIF - SBFAR*5486 1924 Chestnut Stallion Sire HAMDANI EL SAMRY SBFAR*3383 Chestnut 1903 Dam APCHEE SBFAR*4552 Chestnut 1917 Dam's Sire KADI II SBFAR*3320 Chestnut 1908 Status DECEASED 23 Feb 1938 Studbook Reference Volume 20 Page 1030 Breeder M. F BOURLON

The grey was indeed Salam but who is the horse below, who bred him & why is his name unusual?

Hi Anne
Thanks, don't tell Best Pal, but it took hours and hours, the dog thought I was an intruder, when I tried to go to my bed this morning
Anne I am sure you and Mike will agree, when I say that there has been some 41,000 hits on this quiz over the years and we would like you all to come on IN and join us, this is not an exclusive club at ALL, it was started as a way of passing the winter nights (a stay at home night class) for education with FUN and a way to meet and make new friends, it may interest all of you to know that I have never met Mike or Anne in the flesh, but through this we have become good buddies.
So if you are sitting there thinking I would love to post a question, but I'm afraid to, don't be, HAVE A GO, we will love for it. And remember that the answer to 99% of MY questions can be found on the World Wide Web
Mike

Hi Bob,
Quite right this is a bit of fun, that anyone can have a go at and if we all learn a little along the way, then so much the better! I knew that you had Salam nailed down when you asked if his sire was French ( that is registered in the French stud book SBFAR)
The saddle seat photo of Oran van Crabbet was a bit of a give away wasn't it? I can't think of another horse named both after his sire and the stud that bred him though!
Here's another more recent horse (photo by Erwin Escher), this should be relatively straight forward .... so who is it?
Have fun!!

Congratulations !!!!!
The mare is indeed Victoria II by RSD Dark Victory, pictured when she was world champion in 1999
This one might make you think a little bit ....heh heh Here is the horse:-
The question this time for a bit of fun is not who is he? But how tall was he?? There are 1,000,000 bonus points on offer for identifying this one, should any one wish to have a stab at it!

Goodness me, I go away for a couple of days, come back and lost track!!! So many wonderful answers to the postings - Bob you must have a computer in your head - don't upset the dog please
Right Mike - what an elegant photo - I think it is either May Lyons or perhaps our own very elegant Joan Ratcliffe - over to you
Perhaps if we know the rider it would give us a clue to which horse |

Hi,
The photo was taken in what was then Russian Poland at the turn of the last century There is as I said earlier no need to identify the horse , though you are of course welcome to have a go at that if you wish! The only question that I do require an answer to is "How tall was this particular horse?" No harm in having a guess after all how hard can it be .......
Mike
PS Heather, I took the afternoon off work, but posted the question before I left this morning |

Now Mike - I know your sense of humour so wondering if this is a trick question
If you look at the tiny hands of the lady and her small face - maybe the horse - that certainly looks like a HORSE is very small
So I say for my first guess 14hands - don't ask for centimetres please |

The documented height is in cm unfortunately for you but I will accept a guess of 14 hands Unfortunately for you the horse was a little more than a tad taller than 14 hands Better luck next time .... perhaps!
