Well that’ll teach me to post a photo of an Egyptian stallion when Mike is around! Needless to say he is 100% right and it is indeed AK EL SENNARI shown here at the 1988 AHS Show, Ascot. SENNARI was foaled in 1980 and was bred by Bentwood Farm, Texas, USA. He was by Ibn Moniet El Nefous (Morafic x Moniet El Nefous by Shahloul) and out of Il Bint Khedena (Ansata Ibn Halima x Fa Dena by Fa-Serr) and imported in 1988. Mike can you tell us some more about SENNARI after he left Great Britain please? I’m intrigued that two people thought that this was a young EL SHAKLAN, is that because Emma is handling him?

Now for something different and Lynda, this should be right up your street!
WHO IS THIS?

Thank you for all your wonderful replies but Lynda was the closest with her first suggestion - keep thinking along that track and you'll soon get the answer!

Gunni - "iffy" means "uncertain" or in this case, "not quite right." So Hadidi's front legs are not as good as they might be as he is over at the knee.

Tommy - your reply reminds me of the Barry Manilow record "Could it be Magic"! Only it isn't this time but watch this space............!

Bob - thanks so much for posting all those lovely photos, quite takes me back! I remember all the fuss when Lancer Arabians imported Sultan, it was advertised as "you thought it couldn't be done." (I'll see if I can dig out the adverts over the weekend, this is all from memory at the mo) Lancer's originally bred Arabians of American bloodlines but like many others changed over to straight Egyptians.

Louisa - thanks for the photo of Shesk, we'll have to do his damline for you now.

Egzotyka's grey is I think Sasaki(Nagasaki X Safia) sire of A Fancy Miracle and thus Magnum's maternal grandsire.

Regarding AK El Sennari, after leaving the UK in the mid 90's he went to Belgium and then on to Jordan before moving again to Egypt (around 2000) where he now stands at Dr Marei's Al Badeia stud in Cairo A smallish refined and very typey horse, as a sire he can certainly produce "pretty" and I am sure that in Egypt he has been getting the mare's he deserves!

In true "Blue Peter" fashion here is one I did earlier!

Lynda you're spot on as it is of course BURKAN photographed here at the 1972 AHS Show at Kempton Park - I knew you'd get it right!

Mike, thanks for the info on SENNARI, I always liked him and thought he was another "one who got away." The Al Badeia website has some lovely photos of him online together with their other Arabians and is well worth a look. By the way, tell us more about the "one you did earlier"

Hi Lynda,

Sorry you weren't supposed to be trying to guess who the bay was .... nobody would ever be able to!!!! Interesting that you thought that it might be Hanan though, as he does have a strong if superficial resemblance to NK Hafid Jamil and his dam Helala with whom he shares the same tail-female line to Ansata Bint Bukra. He is in fact Bay Sennile a son of AK El Sennari born in 1992 out of Ansata Aya Nabila(DorianShahElShams X Ansata Aya Halima) who we had for the first ten years of his life, the photo was taken about five years ago and he is now in Lancashire though I don't know of any foals by him. Like his sire, he's a small, gentle and very pretty horse.

Caroline, I would agree regarding Sennari, I don't think that he ever got the mares he needed or deserved to shine as a sire whilst he was here in the UK!

Sorry Mike I really should have known Sasaki though, as he is the sire of my stallion Bambooki, so there was no excuse, but I just knew I knew that horse he is an under estimated stallion and little used I think , but his association as maternal grandsire of Magnum has done him no harm. He has a wonderful nature, long swan like neck, kind soulful eyes, and has been a very good influence on the mares I kept from that line, ( well I would say that wouldnt I ?)
