Good luck

It's the Jubilee Stables arch at Crabbet

I have a Silvadoris daughter - very well, young and bossy as ever at 27 this year. Fantastic ride and a good mare inhand - she was once 4th at Malvern behind 3 former British Nat'l Champions.

So Crabbet Park 1985, Jubilee stables Arch, with Judith Evens.

WHO'S THE HORSE?

Keren

How nice that you have a Siladoris Daughter and at 27 years old, he lasted untill he was 32, Des loved that horse so much that when he died Des packed up with Arabians, verry sad

Well jane - that narrows it down to about 150 horses!

I was going to say Diamond Star, - but thats obviously not right if you bred him.

Taken outside the Jubilee Stables at Crabbet Park, during the Crabbet Convention - when I was very much younger!!!!

I don't suppose I ought to answer either, as I have works by this sculptor, and saw this piece many years ago as a clay original!

Sorry, I can't resist answering! The sculpture is called 'The Horse with a Golden Saddle' and is by my very dear friend Pamela H du Boulay. Pam is better known for her marvellous bronzes, the Franklin Mint Bone China series and the Rydal range of model horses. Her 'Colt and Saluki' was released in bone china last year (minus dog) - stunning!

Caroline

PS My 'horse with a golden saddle' is the same colour as this!

"And God said to the Wind 'Be thou gathered together.' And the wind was gathered together....And he created from a handful of wind a horse of chestnut colour like gold. And God let loose the Swift Runner, and he went on his way neighing."

Well done ladies, you were spot on Caroline, I know it's a sculpture but the horse Looks alive, just look into his eyes, We always say our Arabians are a work of art and I think that this ladies work shows them in there true glory.

Fantastic artist

I think this was on show at a National Show not Malvern or Ascot

Marylin can you help? And was it modelled on a living horse?

Bob

I think I photographed this particular one at the Northern Show at Haydock - I seem to remember "Animal Artistry" having a stand and this was exhibited there. I met Pamela through Caroline and had some of her lovely latex "Rydal" models. I have some of the ones she did for "Franklin MInt" - horses/ponies from well-known "horsey" stories - Misty, My Friend Flicka, The Red Pony, Black Beauty and I would like "Racing the Wind" (2 galloping Arabs) but I have not been successful on eBay YET...

Bob

Hope you don't mind me answering this one.

I first met Pam at the AHS Show in 1969, she was then producing the Rydal range of model horses. When I left school a few years later I went to work for her helping to make these models. After about 2-3 years Pam branched out into bronzes many of which were on show at Ascot over the years. Some of her most well known ones were based on her own horses including Shammah (imp Jordan) and her daughter Shahiya ('Filly and Cat 1973'). I had Shahiya on loan for quite a few years including her daughters Shima by Fakr El Kheil and Sahfiya by El Shaklan. I later bred Nafisa El Shaakirah from her (by Donax).

Most of Pamela's bronzes were in small limited editions of about 10-12 and were sold all over the world, quite a few were given as 'presentation pieces' too. She also completed a 1 1/2 life size bronze statue of an Arab Stallion for the centre of Baghdad but I don't think it survived the bombing.

I'm very fortunate in having quite a large collection of her work and certainly wouldn't part with any of it. But to answer your question Bob, her bronzes rarely come on the market although you do see some of the Franklin Mint horses available from time to time (and Marilyn, I still have my 'Racing the Wind'so I hope you have some luck in finding one.)

Just realised I didn't answer all your question. No, the horse (horse with a golden saddle) is not based on a particular animal, in fact, he was altered a few times before the 'end result.' I always thought he had an Egyptian look around the head, shades of Morafic. The saddlery however is based on authentic examples in an extremely old and rare book that Pamela owns. By the way, I still have just the head and neck of one of these models in a mould box that I was going to cast...um...thats rather a long time ago now, time I did something about it!

Thanks for your message.

No, I'm sure folks won't get bored with this topic as its on Arabians after all! Missed the photo of Diamond Star when it was posted but remember seeing him at the Crabbet Parade in 1985 and gosh, didn't it rain!

Now for the next photo......what are you going to tease us with next?

Kind regards

Caroline
