Oh Bob, pleased you don't know either though I suppose we could come up with at least '57 varieties' of answers.
Umm...I know who the horse is in your latest photo and his name and year foaled and....but will leave it for someone else to answer so thinking caps on everyone! (He's a good example of his family though isn't he!)
All the best

Forgot to add that I noticed you'd added a pic of Silvadoris to your signature. I was looking for this same photo for ages in view of our discussion back on page 3?4?5? Can't remember which but I've since found an advert and photo of Silver Moonlight taken when he was exported to the USA, will try and post it over the next few days.

Hi Bob!
This horse was bred by George Saville, foaled in 1904 and originally called LALI-ABDAR - by Mesaoud out of Rose Diamond by Azrek. He was later purchased for Crabbet before being sold on and exported to Homer Davenport's Maynesboro Stud in the USA - where he was newly registered as ABU ZEYD, and went on to sire a total of forty six foals...

Apparently Abu Zeyd was the horse that Homer Davenport was most proud of and after his purchase he enthused in a 1911 magazine advert: “He is the grandest specimen of the Arabian horse I have ever seen and I will give a $100 cup to the owner of any horse that can beat him.” Although Davenport had previously selected and imported 26 horses from the desert, the project was financed by Peter B. Bradley (Hingham Stock Farm) and the horses were divided between himself and Bradley. Homer’s establishment was called Davenport’s Desert Arabian Stud Farm and on his death Abu Zeyd became the premier sire of William R. Brown’s Maynesboro Arabian Stud in New Hampshire.

Here is another picture to puzzle over whilst we're waiting for Bob to get back to us (though we know Fyonah had the right answer with Abu Zeyd). This is a coloured pencil portrait of a well known stallion but who is it and what can you tell us about him? Remember the artist has used very dark paper so make an allowance for depth of coat colour)
 Best wishes

I do recognise the leg marking, but can not think who it is. Can us give us a rough date - but then again looking at the bridle has made me think a bit more!!! |

Right, I think a quick clue is in order as it's such a wide open question. The picture was drawn during the last 6 years and the horse was based in the UK and Lynda, don't be deceived by the bridle - artistic licence!

No, the drawing is not from memory, it's based on a photograph taken at Malvern - now there's another clue for you! The horse is chestnut and the markings are accurate - only the bridle has been changed.
Best wishes

Hi Anne,
Welcome back, we have missed you, I am pleased that your holliday was a success, but next year get over to Malvern and we will all have a party.
For what it's worth I go along with you all that said it is Borneo, but I hope someone can tell us something about him, maybe Emma can do the honours.?????
Lynda Love,
I am on line 24/7 with Skype but you seem to be off line, If you go into search and put in BobandEna you can then put me as one of your contacts, but you can have your cuddle next week at Malvern.
Bob

Congratulation to Barb for getting the right answer for the portrait is indeed of Borneo. Thanks Anne for posting the photograph, glad you had a great holiday but we're pleased you're back. Also delighted that Jane is with us again and Lynda - don't ever give up! And Bob is back too...
As to Borneo, this typey stallion is an artists dream with his lovely head and compact body; must admit that my albums are crammed with photos of him! Foaled in 1992 Borneo is by Thamil by El Namib out of Setubal (also by El Namib) and the photo below shows him winning the British National Champion Stallion in 1999. (The portrait, dated 1998, is based on a photo of Borneo taken in 1996 but modesty forbids me to say "who" the artist is!)
And for the next question………..this photograph hasn’t aged too well but maybe you will still be able to guess who it is? (And who was his even more famous sire?)
 Best wishes

Hi Caroline,
If you are the artist of the Borneo picture, then all I can say is
FANTASTIC
and you are in the wrong JOB.
Please dont keep them to YOURSELF
if you have more.
