Caroline I think the nearest is Silver Sheen (altho it looks like Mr Smith) is it Kempton Park. The other mare - a guess Silver Grey. |

Jude - You are absolutely right. The photograph shows Silver Grey (background) and Silver Sheen (foreground) at the 1970 AHS Show at Kempton Park.
Both mares were bred at Crabbet Park, Silver Grey f. 1957 (Royal Diamond x Silver Gilt by Indian Gold) by Lady Wentworth and Silver Sheen f. 1962 (Bright Shadow x Silver Grey) by Mr C G Covey. Silver Sheen was a big winner in hand and at this particular show she was Champion Brood Mare with Foal at Foot and Female Champion of the Show with her dam, Silver Grey, being reserve to her in both cases. Silver Sheen was owned by Mrs E M Thomas at this time.

Jude - I do agree with you about Mrs Thomas; at this same show she also had the following ‘great names’ entered: Silver Blue, Blue Sylphide, Delilah, Enchantment, Maracanda, Azara, Risslana, Silvana II, Lyvia, African Queen, Indira, Silent Wings, Daughter of Darkness and Astur – phew! What a roll call!
Whilst we are on the subject of the ‘Silver’ family, who is the horse in the picture below and what is his connection, if any, to the horses in Bob’s photographs?

We've done it again! I spent so long fiddling around with the photograph that I didn't notice that you'd posted a few minutes before me! Soweeeeeee.
Right, we must answer your question first before we move on though I hope you realise that you are responsible for me not doing any housework today - all that jolly washing and ironing to do - oh joy! But answering brain teezers on Arabian horses is much more fun And...there is another smaller photo to the left of the larger three, is that part of the question too?
Will ponder your latest puzzle whilst cleaning the oven ()

I realise my last posting didn't make a lot of sense as I mentioned 3 larger photos and have just noticed there's another one (of Silver Sheen)on the extreme right. My display seems to have gone wide screen for some reason so I missed the other pic. Mind you it doesn't help with the oven!
Back to the rubber gloves

Your 4 large photos show 4 generations of one family, is that the answer you are looking for?
Silver Fire gry f.1926 (Naseem x Somra) dam of Silver Gilt gry f.1943 (Indian Gold x Silver Fire) dam of Silver Grey f.1957 (Royal Diamond x Silver Gilt) dam of Silver Sheen f.1962 (Bright Shadow x Silver Grey). All 4 bred at Crabbet Park although the first 3 were by Lady Wentworth and last 1 by C.G. Covey.

Finished the oven, now onto the ironing

Right going out so quick reply. Caroline is the stallion a young Silver Flame (Indian Flame II x Silver Ripple) If answer yes - then connection comes through Silver Ripple's sire Silver Vanity being a son of Silver Gilt. If not, forgive me rambling!!!! |

Jude - Gosh you're good! And I'm thrilled that you managed to identify Silver Sheen and Silver Flame from such small photos (taken on an old Instamatic). Silver Flame f.1970 (Indian Flame II x Silver Ripple) photo taken at the Parade of Arab Stallions held at Crabbet Park in 1977 and, as you say, the connection is through Silver Vanity to Silver Gilt.
Now for something completely different. The painting below is by a well known artist of a famous horse who features in the pedigree of a very popular stallion in the UK. So here's the 3 questions:
1) Who is the horse in the picture? 2) Who is his popular descendent? 3) Where does No 1 fit into No 2's pedigree?
Extra brownie points for naming the artist.
Good luck
Caroline

Oh Bob, I'm sorry but Bey Shah and R Ali Bey are not the right answers.
However I can tell you that the horse in the picture does appear in Ali Jamaal's pedigree.
You're also on the right track in that 'his popular descendent' is imported from the USA.
As to the artist, yes, the name begins with a B (probably better known for bronzes).
Thinking cap on!

Hi Cate, You are more than welcome to this topic; you will have noticed that it is divided into two groups.
(1) THE "A" TEAM
(2) Me on my TODD.
You will also notice that they are good, very good, so I need some buddies on my team, the good news is It's "U".
After much research I will go with Fadjur see picture below now all we have to do is find a UK based stallion with Fadjur in his pedigree.
I think Jane got the Artist.
I could start a thread on Fadjur and see what comes in

Hi Bob, Will do my best, but been wracking my brains on this one and can only think of R Ali Bey & Jullyus JJ having Fadjur through Ali Jamaal's dam Heritage Memory.
