I went to see this at the New London Theatre (it's just moved there from the National)
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC The horse puppets steal the show - although they are wire frame models they capture the behaviour and character of the horse brilliantly, even down to twitching ears, flicking tails and rubbing noses. Someone had done some extensive research of how horses act with people and with one another for this show! You end up not even noticing the puppeteers. On top of that it's a really moving story (made me cry). Even my non-horse orientated boyfriend commented on how lifelike the behaviour of the horses was. At the beginning the horse is a foal and although it's a straight wooden legged puppet, my OH said 'It's amazing that puppet acts just like AJ!' (as a yearling). Very clever - I thoroughly recommend it!!
They are wonderful! The director has absolutely nailed the important horse behaviours & movement. I hope to see it now the stage run has been extended.
