My number one is people on the yard that clip the lead rope whilst the horse is still tied up to the bit ring!!whilst they go off to get something.Yes there have been some nasty incidents

Well, I have lots of things that make me cringe about Yard Life
Leaving tools out on the yard Not shutting & latching doors & gates properly Not putting clips on doors of our escapologist Arabians Insisting on feeding colts/stallions tit bits over the stable door
The list goes on ... but I won't SORRY |

It makes me cringe when I see people tie their horses up in rope parelli type halters.
People who wrap the lead rein round their hands.
Nylon lead/lunge reins.
People who do elasticated girths up the wrong way round.
Hay nets hung too low.
Ill fitting tack.
Filthy numnahs.
Filthy bits.
Filthy feed bowls / water buckets.
Spurs worn upside down.
I had a livery who would sweep the yard, leaving the sweepings in a nice neat little pile - and then leave it there arghhhhhhhhhh.

Taps left on old baths that are used as water troughs....horse comes along and can then get headcollar caught on taps. |

People who used to come to the yard with there kids and leave them running around. You would think that they would teach them how to behave around horses but NO. A wonder there was no accidents. |

Thankfully i don't have to put up with any of these things. However, i only have myself to blame when things go wrong! I'm not sure i could stand to be on a yard! Ros |

My number one would be well meant, but interfering, advice from people who know nothing about Arabs.
The worst offender on the yard couldn't even bridle a horse when she first came but now thinks she knows everything ! We all have to start somewhere but we also carry on learning each and every day, horses are an ongoing tutorial.

I could never share - I am a control freak like that!! HATE people using the arenas and leaving muck and mess / poles all over etc. Or people who breakthings and never tell. Or idiots who shut top doors on horses |

I recently encountered someone who decided they would turn my niece's section d mare into a show hunter by clipping all her feathers off, pulling her beautiful long mane and shaving the top of her tail so far down that it took half the thickness out of it and all done with a twitch on the poor thing. It will take an age for her tail to grow back to it's original glory and just looks such a mess that you now can't show her as anything until the tail as grown out. I wasn't at the stables at the time or it just wouldn't have happened and my 12 year old niece knew no better because she'd only just got the pony and was a complete novice. Don't you just hate the know alls who interfere and when i mentioned to "the expert" that it would have been a good idea to ask my niece's parents or myself for permission before abusing the pony i was hurled a load of abuse!

I am with Mrs Vlacq & Mogwai - couldn't share. Lori - how very rude - I would have had more than a few choice words!!! Some know all once pulled my Sec B mare's mane and trimmed her tail "for me" without asking- it took her out of the ring for a season and is one of the reasons why I moved onto private land. Hope her feathers and tail soon grow back. |

Also people thinking they have a right to "borrow" your stuff without asking and never replacing it...then when you ask them they deny they have ever seen it. |

Oh yes...all the above also
People hitting their horses around the HEAD!! Seen it twice recently; one horse was over-eager to get his head collar on in the field and the dumb ***** wacked him around the head with it . Anothe 'pony club' girl was grooming a head-shy horse, who wouldn't stand still so decided to wack the poor animal with the wooden side of the brush (on the face). How stupid.
Oh, have to agree with gossip and 'know-it-all's' - funny how many people around horses are 'experts'. |

On my yard there is a multiple horse owner who insist on tying their horses all up at once then taking one off to the school leaving the others tied up to fend for themselves... Que biting/kicking/getting head stuck under ridiculously long leadrope/scraping/wood chewing! You name it!
What infuriates me the most is that is then isn't safe to tie-up my boys, so I have to do everything in the stable when they are around! Apart from the risk of injury, it's bloody stressful for my horses to be near them! ARGGGHHH! Rant Over! It's nice to share |

I could go on all day long but I wouldn't want to bore you. Here are a few things that drive me wild:-
There's a teenager who mucks her horses out in the evening and has to go to the muck heap about ten times as her barrow is tiny. She over fills it and then wheels it past my stables with heaps dropping off outside where I have already swept up. Then, when she's finished mucking out she sweeps up outside her two stables so it all looks nice and neat but leaves the stuff she's dropped outside mine!
When we are moved to the summer grazing suddenly the whole yard leave their horses out 24/7 and then in a couple of weeks they have absolutely no grass and their horses are all grossly fat. They then pester the yard owner for more grazing as they couldn't possibly feed hay.
There are a few people at our yard that pay people to do their horses for them and they are given huge lists of instructions about how they must be brought in daily to have their legs washed with hibiscrub, or that they must be stabled at night but when these people do their own horse (and that is on the very rare occassion) they suddenly don't need leg washing, etc.

Yes Joto the feed thing happens at our place. One owner comes at 7am during the week but if he hunts on a Saturday the horse doesn't get an early visit and breakfast beforehand, oh no, his owner comes just in time to set off for the hunt around 10am then hunts till the end (3 ish), then soaks him with a cold hosepipe and feeds him a very late brekkie or early tea. The horse is so good he looks after him all day, never ails or is nasty. |

Actually... jsut generally Livery Yards!! They are the casue of more accidents / broken bones etc because there is no unity, and no emergency plans in place. |

All of the above, especially horses tied up to the bit, the mess everywhere and the crud crusted (not sure it's a word, but I am sure you will know what I mean !) bits shoved back in the horses mouths time after time.

? if someone "helpfully" gave your horse a makeover without permission, would it be a possible case of criminal damage? or could you take it to the small claims court with the help of your insurance legal assistance?
It would be my biggest nightmare if anyone did anything even the slightest hair cut or pulled against my wishes it would feel like a total violation, Lori i hope things grow back soon, feel gutted for you. |
