I am SOOOO annoyed!! I've been trying to get Mum online (mainly so she can come on here)so I rang BT and said she just wanted the cheapest option as she won't be doing much except browsing. I explained to the bloke that her PC doesn't have an ethernet slot in the back and can they send normal USB doofer. It all arrived yesterday but with no flipping USB. The OH picked up an ethernet thing and installed it in her tower but when I went to install the BT disc it kept saying it couldn't detect the HUB!! I really want to try to avoid the obligatory 2 hour conversation with someone in India and can't think why it still not connecting! Am I missing something realy simple??? Any advice would be greatly pounced upon!!
Hi! My OH put the installation disc in that came with the ethernet board. The strange thing was that the instructions said that the pc would detect new hardwear prior to installing disc, but it didn't.
So, can you see the network adapter in Windows? If not, maybe the card is not well inserted. Windows should detect it, without the need for the drivers. In fact, Windows should ask you for the drivers.
Thats what I thought...I'll have another look when I get to Mum's,failing that I'll ring a friend who does amazing things with computers,if he doesn't emigrate at the prospect of yet another Mittens disaster!!
Will do thank you! I have got a driver installation disc from BT which I used to reinstall the drivers on my PC when I moved house/computers.Might that work?
The BT driver will be a driver for the modem. It won't solve you the problem of your Ethernet card not being recognized. I am guessing that your current problem results from the ethernet card not being recognized. Until it does, you won't be able to use the modem and adding the modem driver's won't help.
The fundamental thing to find out is whether the ethernet card is being recognized or not. The course to follow will depend on that.
