Lovely thread, my mare Vlacq Itarille (Tara) will be 17 in June and hopefully will be competing in endurance this year :-) She still spooks a lot out on rides, at silly things like triangle drain covers!, and gallops and bucks around the field! |

Love this thread My boy is 24 this year and still acting like a 2 year old. We hack out a lot and play at local shows, he's also fab with my niece who's a really nervous rider but trusts Jay completely!
This is us on our Christmas hack out:
...and a not so good one from my phone of him with my niece a couple of weeks ago before I went out for a ride.
Apart form being a bit skinny after winter I think he looks great for his age He's as daft as ever and the reason I love horses |

My oldies are Rimmy (23) and Tamila (25). Milly looks about 15 and still hares around the field with the youngsters. Rimmy only stopped work because I had to last year but I am going to do lots of natural horsemanship on the ground which he loves and it will keep us both fit. I would love Milly to have another foal but it is too risky as she will be a veteran by insurance standards this year.
I remember their grandfather, Rimini, hurtling aound the field at the age of 31. |

sorted out a few more of our Anglo Arab golden oldies, who have been with their owners since youngsters
Sophelia was purchased by a very novice lady who had only been riding a very short time. Due to Sophies extremely kind temperament, they have learned together and are still winning Championships in a variety of ridden disciplines, Sophie 22yrs young.
Sunray Silhouette she is the mare racing in our sig pics Has been a great performance mare.....Still going strong into her 30th year. Below is her daughter Sunray Samantha and grand daughter Karens Kharisma.
Samantha was purchased as a weaned foal and has remained at livery with us. She is now 25 years young and still looks amazing.
We still have quite a number of performing oldies.....will go through the pics and post more
The above Sunray Schantelle (nearside) and Sunray Solstice winning the pairs at AHS National 2000. Both with same owners since foals. Schantelle is now 25 years and Solstice 19 years and will be out in Veterans this year. Both have been all round competition horses and Solstice has also competed successfully in combined training and cross country
Have been so grateful to the owners of our homebred horses who have given them fab homes for all of their life since foals or youngsters

My old fella El Rashid 23 this time if I remember rightly, had him 4 years and backed him at the grand old age of 19 - so sorry - no performing pics as ridden work is all on HIS terms He has produced me 2 beautiful black foals, a lovely filly and even more lovely colt, and his 3rd for me is due in about 8 weeks, he's still covering and catches all his mares (we joke that he's so fertile he just has to look at them and they're infoal!!)

Forgot to say have had both of them since they were born. Rimmy was actually an orphan and I hand reared him from 5 hours old. |

The above is Sunray Scinnabar (1986)as a weaned foal, sired by our homebred Thoroughbred Stallion Sunray Scinnamon
Scinnabar was the most amazing little horse and consistently won and gained many championships, Show Hunter Pony, Working Hunter Pony, Dressage, Combined Training etc etc for his first two owners!!
Parading before the big race!!!
In 2003 he was purchased by Lady Proby for her four grandchildren who between them "did it all" at Pony Club. The Pony Club had organised a `race day` to take place at Cottenham P.to P racetrack in 2004 and Scinnabar with Lady Proby`s eldest grand child on board, with a class of 26 runners........he won by ten lengths Scinnabar a mere 18yrs old!!
At the Pony Club Championships held at Newark Showground later that year, he had to appear in the main ring in all his race gear and gallop flat out, round two laps of honour to great applause, and he absolutely enjoyed every moment!! He is now 23yrs young and is an all round family members horse and still going strong.....a home for the rest of his life with the Proby family

Great thread! My boy is 19 and doesn't seem to be aging as well as my part bred did (she died at 28 last may). I have had lots of people say that it is because he is pure bred and too much repeating of bloodlines has its effect - but these posts say different!! basky is full of life but doesn't seem to keep weight on as well anymore, he's also a bit arthritic - but I think that still taking him out for hacks and walks keeps him young. |
