I have been told that there will be passport changes which i am not aware of it.

eg. new foal after 1st july 2009 must have micro chipped by 31st dec 2009.

if a horse is micro chipped, a silhouette is no longer required by law, be at the discretion of the PIO. what does it mean?

anyone knows about it?

I've heard a bit about it. New foals and any other horse getting passported after 1st July will be micro chipped. Also police have the right to ask for passport to be produced anytime a horse is out and about. Including if your out on a hack! If it isn't on you at the time(like it fits in your back pocket!) you have 3 hours to produce it.

I wonder how they will enforce that rules (3 Hours)if you are on an endurance ride (out on the moors)

All horses have to have the passport with them at the event but many times it is back at the venue.

I have never been stopped yet.

I think people are getting confused as after the 1st July a passport must accompany a horse if it is moved in any wheeled vehicle for whatever purpose. You have far more chance of being asked to produce the passport by the Police in this instance if stopped for a roadside check than being asked if you are out for a hack.

yes but if it is interpreted as being out on a hack then it is just more sheer stupidity by office wallies who drafted it and the police who bothered to ask.

I wonder how many policemen actually realise a horse has to be passported and needs it to travel

Interesting point as at FEI competitions you have to hand your passport over and do not get it back till the day after the ride.

the part about inspectors being able to enter premises and mark animals is scarey.
