Hi Templars, I am a life long dedicated fan of the Irish Setter, and to date have been the proud owner of 6, the one in our sig picture is Jolie. They are such fun and very clever contrary to public opinion. You most certainly are going to be busy this season. Are any of your horses by or from graded stock? and did you have to go abroad for your horses? would be very interested to know. |

Some years ago, When the Anglo/Part Bred Arab UK Championships were held at B.E.C. Stoneleigh.(classes were huge then) A contingency of French Anglo/Selle Francais Breeders visited the Show. (1996)
Mrs Angold of Pinnerwood Arabian Stud, was their host and interpreter. Several of our homebreds where exhibiting, and all did well in their classes. We were delighted, when later that day, an Owner was placed 2nd in an enormous class, with a two year old Anglo Filly....Sunray Summertime. Mrs Angold approached, and introduced us to the French delegates. We were very flattered by their comments of approval for our Anglo youngstock, saying our Anglos were very much the `type` they breed and they were very impressed with their quality. and asked about their breeding saying what good Competition Anglos we bred
We were invited to go to France and they would `put us up` and take us a tour around the top Anglo Studs. However, we had to decline their most generous offer, as we would not leave our horses in the care of strangers. BUT.....how nice to have our stock praised by the French Connectiion.... the French Anglos, probably the most sort after in the World !!!

We have felt for several years now that as breeders we are subsidizing peoples riding horses by breeding and running them on to 4 year olds and then selling them for less than many folks pay for a mediocre imported warmblood foal.
The 'looking for a riding horse P.B. or Anglo', usually goes something like this. 'It needs to be 15.3 h.h. to 16,2 h.h. Have done a season of riding club and a bit of showing, jump anything, be 5 to 8 years. (Usually not grey for some reason.) So well adjusted it can virtually put it's own tack on. Price, a maximum of £3,000
Well do you sums folks. Depreciation on well bred competition mare. Stud fee. 4 to 8 years keep, farrier, vet routine visits, let alone any aadditional vet visits. Then if you add up competition expenses and man hours training, we have got to be completely mad.

Here's a photo of Sloppy when he arrived 3 weeks ago
He chose Evie. She'd gone for a little girl but Sloppy just came out of the whelping box and sat on her feet and went to sleep. They are totally inseparable. From the first night, he's slept in her room (usually in her bed) and since the second night, he's never made a mess in her room. He's 12 weeks now and is going through the most appealing gangly phase. He's all ears, knees and paws.
And here's my little girl, Sybil the Gordon Setter. She's 8 weeks now and this was taken when she was 6 weeks.

They are beautiful, you are going to be kept busy. I know I keep banging on about the Sport Arabian/Trakehner Event, but we have added youngstock classes this year as a shop window for our Performance breeders. the judges will all be Sport Horse judges and will be announced on the Event website. Our Banner will appear on AL again shortly |

Would say to everyone with a performance arab to go to the trakehner/arab event it is a really good show.
We took two last year one from the trakehner camp and one from the arab camp and had a really good day.
Lots of classes for everyone to have a go at and a really friendly show.
Plus for the juniors a high points award!
Well done Denmoor and your team lets hope this year is even better! With all the threads on sports arabs perhaps the owners will attend and support a show designed with them in mind!

We won't be able to make the event - we have 4 horses going to Hutton in the Forest on the 20/21 June, one pure bred stallion, one part bred mare, one Anglo gelding and a thoroughbred.
But we wish you every success
