Has anyone had or heard of this as my mare had the op a year ago . Last year we were meant to get her fit slowly, but it went too slow as a lot happened ( not good ) in the family. She was never 100% sound after a short trot, but i think that was because of lack of fitness ? Just wondering if anyone had bought a horse back to fitness from this an how they are now ? Any advice/comments please. Thanks

Yes I had a Section B mare on livery who had both of hers operated on. She made a full recovery and did VERY well in the show ring. We followed the vets instructions to the letter and she was kept out as much as poss, kept fit and not allowed to carry too much weight. She continued to do well in the show ring with her new owners and went on to be a successful brood mare. |

Some years ago I knew a Section D gelding who had this op and he went on to be successful in dressage and eventing. |

Thank you Vera and Garnet, she had both sides cut so no chance of sleeping standing up now ! She did stay in the vets for 6 weeks sedated the whole time, averaged 24acp tabs a day sometimes more ? You have given me renewed hope for this year which is well needed i can tell you. Thank you |

Forget last year; this is a new start. Take it slow and steady and best of luck with her. I thought Jim the Cob was on a lot of ACP to stop him kicking the door down when he had laminitis but you have beaten his record! |

She was sedated an had six of us trying to carry her on the Arctic of a lorry with her mate inside to keep her company, both ways, that was after she had totalled the trailer two weeks before !! She really doesn't like being in especially alone, she has gone through wood/electric fence an over hedges if thinks she will be left !! Lots of confidence strategies this year an all since trying to get her to vets. Things will get better this year, backed an ready to ride out in company for safety |

Hi,
My old boy now 22 has had both done when he was 4 years old, he is still 100% sound doesnt have any joint supplements nor bute, he competed at HOYS in 1998, 1999, and 2000 just fantastic, I was really worried about this op and to be fair he has never looked back.
Good luck with your girl.
