What is your most vital or sentimental piece of riding equipment? Okay...no jokes....I know its the horse!!But seriously...what could you not want to ride without? and why? And same question re crew equipment? keep it clean now!!)
I ride with a carrot for gate opening stops!! Zilco breastplate...brilliant for sudden unexpected stuntperson antics!! Crew item....lots of junk food for him, and a water tanker for me!

I ride with very well equiped first aid kit for horse & human - carry horses in saddlebag attached to saddle & human in my bum bag. Includes as well as all the usual - anti-histamine cream for insect bites, Arnica ointment, Arnica homeopatic tabs. Also carry knotted rope halter & lead rope, all singing all dancing knife with wire cutters etc. Also lots of good old binder twine!! Oh not forgetting - a tube of Polos - just incase!!
I ALWAYS carry the above - even if just off for a 1/2 he jolly! This became "habit" where we lived before as I used to ride out on the Welsh hills for hours on end without seeing anyone - so I decided that I had to equip myself to be able to cope with any emergencies!!
I'm always totaly amazed by riders that just don't carry anything with them - I always carry a drinks bottle (water filled not Gin - shame!!) & watch the weather - more often than not I will take a waterproof (yes - even in this HOT weather we are having at the moment!!) as the weather up on the Welsh hills can change just like that!!!
Also on the hills I always use a breastplate (love the Zilco ones!!) to keep the saddle in place.
So I now probable sound a real boring old fart!! But I should be able to cope with most things thrown at me....................could you??????????????????????????????????????????? |

Stethescope(Hmm - spelling!!) - never rely on HR monitor for ER's - learnt by experience at Red Dragon last year - probably meant difference between 1st and 3rd place for Bond and Azzy by the time I'd faffed about looking for the steth when our monitor failed!!! Kaz |

All of the above but no breastplate. Shoof, drinks container and emergency first aid kit for horse Dollar carries on his saddle. Human first aid kit, Arnica etc in bum bag. Folding hoof pick, baleing twine etc, etc.
Crewing car carries large red box First Aid for any eventuality. This is were I carry the Stethescope, just incase the HRM goes down. Spare shoes for Dollar and tons of munchies for me. Feed for Dollar and electrolites. Spare, filled drinks containers. Everything including the kitchen sink.
On a ride I wear my normal watch as well as my HRM watch. If the HRM goes down your time goes with it.
Shirley who may get to a ride in September, fingers crossed. |

Saddlebags - I've got some from Snugpax (USA) - bought them over the internet & they are very good - also come is a hugh range of bright colours - as well as black!! Mine are turquoise. Their "Shoof" bag is v.good - can fit lots in as well as the Shoof! |

My old macs, most definately - they certainly saved my back from being completely knackered when I came off Joe at Appleton (I had them in a back pack and they took the impact when I fell onto a cattle grid). |

Hi all,
I am late joining this discussion due to report writing this weekend after taking last weekend off to go to Cirencester
At the moment my most vital piece of equipment has got to be my neoprene chaps. After having surgery on my legs last year they are still tender and the chaps protect and keep muscles warm.
I always carry a mobile phone, penknife, horse treats (Salty adores the spillers herbal ones), knotted rope halter and some sort of lightweight leadrope.
A friend of mine carried a half lunge line when she competed her stallion. MOst useful for tricky moments when she needed to get off for any reason.
regards

Celia - will have to look it up! I've got several of their bags - they are well made etc. Are you going to Pen Ddol-y-Gader? If so we really should try to get to meet & say hello |

Judith and Karen
Thanks for the links for the saddlebags. I gather they are imported and I'm a newbie at ordering from the internet. How does it work exactly as the prices are in dollars? Do you order and they work out an exchange rate? Also, how long do they take to deliver?
sorry for so many questions
confused
