Amani has developed some kind of infection on his face. No idea whats causing it. He had 5 days of antibiotics and weashed daily with hibi but it flared up again when this stopped. Got some cream from the vet today to try.

Anyone had anything similar or any suggestions?

Nothing has changed the only think i can think of are more chickens, I know they get red mites but I dont think these can be passed onto horses?

My 3 year old has developed several itchy lumps on his face & neck and we reckon it's hives (urticaria). Probably caused by the high protein levels in his haylage. Vet says its quite common in young adults.

It could be fungal if the hibiscrub and anti- biotics arnt working. Speak to your vet and see if he/she says its ok to use an anti-fungal shampoo or cream.
Best Wishes andplease keep us updated as to progress.

over the years l have seen quite a few horses who have developed a protein rash...it normally covers the whole body but starts on the neck like an under the skin angry rash with lots of rough bumps...it can develop into small lesions if the diet is not changed

l first saw this when a mare was booked into my yard and as l had no idea what it was l refused to accept her until my vet had seen her and reassured me as to what it was..since then l had seen it mostly in youngsters fed up for the show ring on too high protein diet..

easily treated...just cut back diet until 11-12% protein and the rash will subside

horse with this condition will often be very hyped and almost jumping out of their skin, nor will they settle
